The store in Port Richey was where I went to purchase a dishwasher and an adjustable frame & mattress. Their prices were much higher for the bed frame & mattress, so I just focused on the dishwasher. I was working with Tony S. the Salesman that greeted me when I went into the store. The dishwasher was only the 18" wide, which is the size my new single wide mobile home has space for. Tony was quick to assure me that this wasn't an issue, and even said their person who does installs would even do what was needed to complete the installation. He quoted one price and the day after I was in the store, I called to inform him that yes, part of the cupboard area would need to be cut out, which is what he'd told me would be done. He failed to mention all the additional costs that would now be added, which also included a $35 - $40 fee to have their installer come figure out what needed to be done in order to get my dishwasher installation would cost. The original quote was $880 for the lowest price 18 inch dishwasher. When I spoke to him about what the guy was going to have to do in order to get the dishwasher where my home was ready for an optional dishwasher. Tony added so many additional costs that rather than the original quote of $880 it was now more than $1100! So once I had a night to "sleep on it." So the third day after I was in the store to originally purchase this dishwasher. He had scheduled a man to come out and check out the work that would be necessary to complete my dishwasher install. He also informed me that I would have to pay this person. I exploded since I was already paying more than $1150 for a mini dishwasher. During this conversation, I couldn't remember exactly how much this man would be asking me for upon this upcoming inspection. So on the day before this person was supposed to be at my home, I called Tony 7 times, left voice-mail after voice-mail, and kept calling trying to reach Tony. First he was with another customer, and of course, yes please send me to his voice-mail. Of course I was polite and explained why I needed him to return my call. About 3 hours later, after not getting a return call, I called again and was told this time that he was at lunch, and sure send me to his voice-mail. So I left another message and reminded him that this "person" was coming the next day and I needed to know if I had to give him cash or use my debit/credit card. Again, hours went by with no call from Tony S. So around 5:00 PM I called again and again was transferred to a different Salesman, who knew I'd called numerous times that day. Well, his answer was Tony isn't available! What!? Come on! I asked what that meant, was he in the restroom or eating or what? He said none of the above and once again sent me to his voice mail. I was done. I didn't leave a message, but called back and the receptionist was extremely nice listening to me complain about what a horrible salesperson he was. I just told her to give Tony a message letting him know I wasn't interested in getting a dishwasher from Famous Tate's! She relayed this information to the store manager who was extremely amazing, and was willing to forego the fee for this "installation inspection." Sadly, I was so irritated and angry, I told her I was definitely not buying anything from Famous Tate's. I also informed her that I am an alumni of Dale Carnegie, which is a very successful sales training company. I even told her about the book that she needed to have Tony read while he's sitting there avoiding customer calls, was "How to Win Friends and Influence People" which was written by Dale Carnegie. She would have given me the sun, moon and stars to get me to calm down and continue with my purchase. She was wonderful, as well as the receptionist, but no way in hell was I going to buy a dishwasher there or the bed that I'd planned on getting this month. So the moral of this story is, Famous Tate's has a wonderful reputation and reviews but stay away, avoid doing any kind of business with Tony Smith. He's lousy at customer service and doesn't care...
Read moreRun, especially if you have Tony Smith as your sales manager. He quoted us a price of 4500.00 for a king mattress and base. We left to compare prices at another local retailer (who was more expensive). The sales person from the 2nd store called to verify the price. Tony explained to her it was 4500.00 with a 300.00 in store rebate and a 200.00 mail in rebate. We went back to Famous Tates, did the financing and when we reviewed the bill, Toby was charging 4999.00 for only the mattress.
When we questioned him on the price he said he did not tell us 4500.00. When we questioned him on the call with the sales person from the other retailer, first he stated he did nort speak to her. He then said, oh yeah I did but that.qaa for a totally different bed.
Bad enough Tony cannot get pricing correct but.he then tries.to tell you not only did you not hear the pricing correctly, your husband didnt nor the sales lady ftom the other retailer did not hear it correctly.
Worst experience ever. Tony just lost our business for good.
2/18/25 Tony only quoted a price in your store for 1 mattress and 1 box spring not 2 like he is claiming. I even went as far as asking him a 2nd time about the cost. So, he either doea not know your pricing or 2) he does not care.
As far as the woman he spoke to concerning the mattress Tony is telling you a story. Not only did I hear the entire convesation but so did my huaband and another sales associate from the store. Are you saying the 4 of us are lying or misunderstoood...
Read moreBack in August of 2022 my mom and I went into this Famous Tate to purchase a Speed Queen washer. Told the sales guy what we wanted, should've been a simple, quick sale. He ended up talking us into a GE washer. We've had nothing but issues with the washer from the beginning, balancing issues, spinning issues, etc. until about 2 weeks ago the washer finally went totally out. We called GE and was told the specific model we bought was actually under an auto extended warranty. Scheduled our service call and it was supposed to be today which I left work early for (with no pay.) Service man from GE calls and says washer is out of warranty and we need to go through the company we bought it from. Explained GE is who told us it was under ext warranty not the company we bought it from. Come to find out after calling GE customer service back they put the service ticket in incorrectly. This has been such a HASSLE when we wanted a Speed Queen to begin with. If you go into this place knowing what you want as a consumer then stick to it, don't listen to recommendations from the sales people. It shouldn't be on me for people not doing their jobs correctly or explaining things correctly. Also as a female, if I tell you what I want then just listen and do it because I've done my research and don't need someone swaying me to go a different way and then having to deal with things like this in...
