In traveling, you develop an affinity for a certain hotel brand. My favorite, especially over the last year, has solidly became Holiday Inn express. I am staying at another in two weeks in fact.
The majority of the time, going from one Holiday Inn location to the next, you should be able to expect a very similar experience.
On a multi day road trip with my two teenage children and my father, this was the second Holiday Inn location in as many nights that I patronized. Part of the problem was the night before, the excellent Holiday Inn express we stayed at established such a high bar that this one would have had to work very hard the metrics that is set.
Sadly, it did not.
The check-in process was clunky, however, credit where it’s due, the lady at the front desk was pleasant enough. She was also quite overwhelmed, and truly needed a second set of hands to handle the Friday evening rush that came in when I checked in.
We were not recognized as being IHG award members, but honestly, that means nothing to me. I did go down later that night and ask for a bottle of water, only because I couldn’t find any for sale anywhere else in the hotel. I very well may have overlooked it, but as I was recovering from a cold, I’m afraid all of my faculties weren’t as sharp as usual, and I really needed that water. Lol. Water is usually included in a rewards check in I thought, and I was met with trepidation. She explained that I could have one, if I required it , but that wasn’t something they normally provided. It made me feel like I was panhandling and I didn’t really care for that. However, they had a supply under the check-in desk just for that which she retrieved.
The room had some legitimate problems, the sheets were very worn, coming apart at the seams, and had some very telling brown stains smeared on them - literally right on top of the sheets that were impossible to miss. My kids were disgusted, and I was pretty put off as well. This was unacceptable. I took the sheets, delivered them to the front desk, and while awaiting a replacement, I asked for pillows and sheets for the pullout bed (and two extra wash cloths as the room only has 2), which is something that was provided at the previous Holiday Inn I stayed at. I was told that the hotel had no extra pillows available. That’s very poor.
Breakfast was fine. Parking was decent. However, the entrance to the hotel is a little rough if you don’t know exactly where you are turning.
As we always do, we made it a point to leave a tip for the housekeeping staff, however, there is definitely some serious improvements needed there.
Compared to the previous night stay, the room walls were very thin and I heard a baby crying in a room across the hallway and several people walking and talking that evening.
Breakfast buffet was actually excellent, and the layout of the hotel is not bad. The fitness center has a good selection of dumbbells and cardio equipment - and excellent mirrors.
I love Holiday Inn, as I stated, it is my go to, but upon my return to Greenville, I will probably not stay at this...
Read moreI booked my room one day prior to staying. When I arrived at the hotel I had to stand there and wait before the employee acknowledged me. After I signed my documents and headed back to my vehicle to park, the employee came running to my car and started knocking rather hard on my car window to get my attention. She apologized to me and said that she accidentally gave me a room that someone was already occupying and stated to me “I’m sure you don’t want your room to come with a man!” I said, “no mam, I sure don’t.” So then after standing in the lobby for a little more than 20 minutes she assigned me my second room. I went back to my car and all the way to the third floor this time. When I entered the room there were towels all over the floor, trash, and a person laying in the bed! I was so terrified. I immediately went back to the lobby for the third time and the employee was no where to be found for about 20 minutes. I was extremely tired, it was late in the night and I had to wake up for working early in the morning! Not only did I have to stand there and wait for her to come back to the front desk but after she got there I had to wait forever for her to dig through her system and find me the THIRD room. She was trying to be nice about the situation and joke to make light of what was going on while I’m standing there falling asleep just waiting for a third room. Finally, I was able to get checked in and this time the room was fine. It was very neat and clean. However, I was late for work because I lost out on sleep from waiting and I stayed awake half of the night because I was so scared that the employee would assign my room to someone else and make the same mistake she did with me. All I could think about was someone walking into my room without my knowledge. I would have thought she would have offered me a late check out, or something. Instead she...
Read moreShocking $2,787.37 Fraudulent Charge – Beware!
I had a concerning experience during my extended stay at this hotel. Upon checkout, my wife and I noticed unusual activity on both of our credit card statements and the itemized receipts from the hotel. A detailed examination revealed that an additional $2,787.37 had been removed from my account and refunded onto a credit card that neither of us own. This fraudulent transaction happened in the middle of my stay and went quite a long time before being discovered by my wife and me. This resulted in my credit card being charged for my stay, plus the additional $2,787.37.
These charges were not only discovered by my wife and I but we also had to bring them to the attention of the hotel management.
The management was unaware of any fraudulent activity, despite the fact that the number of nights I stayed and the amount charged suggested someone within the hotel knew they could access that much money from my account discretely. Additionally, the transactions appeared to be carefully concealed throughout my stay to make the fraud less suspicious.
It makes you ask, why would the hotel refund a guest who is clearly in the middle of their stay onto a separate card that is not the card on file for their hotel stay?
Despite bringing this charge to the attention of the hotel management, we did not receive a satisfactory explanation of the suspicious transactions.
This experience has been very distressing, and I advise future guests to be vigilant with their financial transactions! Safety and trustworthiness are crucial in choosing a hotel, and based on my experience, I believe this establishment needs to address these...
