Comfort Suites — Hotel in Powdersville

September 23, 2024 - Fabuloso over use. I want to preface this review by saying I generally stay in Comfort Suite as a preference when I travel and have NEVER run into this toxic level of cleaning vapors in any other location. This location near Piedmont, SC uses the cleaning product Fabuloso in what feels like toxic levels. There seems to be a need for the management to physically monitor the dilution process of its cleaning staff with regard to the Fabuloso dilution process for cleaning use.

Stayed in room 309 - The tiled entry & bath floors were slick with a soapy film - I cleaned up myself and the towel was stiff with the amount of soapy residue that came up.

As long as the AC was running, the smell from the cleaner was tolerable but the hotel must reduce the AC use overnight as I woke around 2a and the smell was heavy and the temperature in room was very warm, I turned the thermostat to 65 and the cooling unit never came on.

At breakfast, the dining table top had a film of this dried cleaning product - I poured hot water on the table top, when wiping the liquid it appeared like the cleaning agent had been used full strength, the soapy mess on the table required several tries to clear the residue from the table.

I planned a two night stay but had such a bad sore throat and allergy type symptoms from breathing these fumes all night, I decided to check out after only one night.

Otherwise, everything else about this place were good and as expected for a Comfort Suites property - the staff were clean & generally pleasant, the room was spacious, the bed was really comfortable, the couch was not comfortable, there was adequate towels and sample size personal hygiene products available, there was a small in room hot water maker & tea/instant coffee and hot beverages in lobby at all times, the noise levels were minimal, the parking seemed adequate, location is convenient to several Greenville area attractions - the location seems to be a Latino heavy business area, hotel breakfast offering was as expected for Comfort Suites properties.

Would not recommend this property to others based on the health concerns posed by the evident misuse of the Fabuloso cleaning product.

I will not stay at this property...

Had a great stay last night. So many great things to say about the hotel. The room was huge with a closet, a desk with tons of room in the drawers for clothes, a lounge area in the room for when you just want to chill without laying in bed, and a well lit and clean bathroom. The bed was super-comfy with an abundance of pillows. The bathroom had plush washrags and towels and there were lots of them, so no need to call front desk for more. The clock was so unique because it had a display facing forward AND a display on the side. How smart is that? Of course I took pictures of that and even the make and model so you could buy one for your own home. And there were plenty of outlets and USB ports for charging your various devices. If there's one thing that irks me is scrounging for outlets or fighting with your fellow guests for an outlet. Not here. In fact, instead of your normal hotel pictures, I took pictures of things that were important to me like the outlets, USB ports, HDMI inputs on the TV so I could plug in my computer and watch my shows on the TV, and the unique but solid shower that I'd love to have in my own house. The internet was fast and the room was quiet. The whole experience was more than I expected.

The breakfeast (see what I did there) was large and abundant. Eggs, cheese, bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, fruit, bread, muffins, cereal, yogurt, waffles, milk, juices, coffee, everything and more than you would expect from a hotel breakfast. A+

Were there any downsides? Hardly, but if I had to nit-pick, the electrical wiring is incorrect. The two switches next to the door have to be turned on in order for the light switch in the bathroom to work. If you're taking a shower and someone shuts off the switches at the door, it's lights out for you, even though you didn't turn it off in the bathroom. Also, for it being such a nice hotel, you'd think they would have something more comparable than single ply rough toilet paper. These two minor things did not take away from my stay and the hotel still earns a solid 5 stars for my review.

I'd go out of my way to stay at this...

I stayed at this Comfort Inn and Suites on January 16th of 2021, and there was long hair under the comforter and on the pillows. I stayed in this exact same hotel on March 31st of this year and had the exact same problem as last year. The thing is, I have been shaving my head since 2013 when I suffered from a stroke, because I couldn't hold the clippers in my left hand. There is a new owner and now, new management! I was told by the front desk personnel that the owner would be contacting me pertaining to my new, but, same experience. Today is May 26th and, as of 3:40 p.m., and, no one has reached out to me, or left a voice mail. My phone number has been the one for over 15 years. If I could give negative stars, I would. Well, when they changed my room, this last time, there was an unbelievable smoke smell in the restroom, not to mention the tobacco underneath the comforter, and the sheets, this last stay! I'm pretty sure that the front desk probably blamed my wife, and I for the smoke smell! I would not recommend staying at this particular establishment, especially if you're African American, like myself! I noticed that the non African American customers were treated differently than myself. I received the very least amount of attention possible, until I made mention of the fact that she (the young lady behind the desk) looked like my granddaughter, who is of mixed race, as I thought she was. I used it to my advantage to gain a better report with the young lady who did not have the same customer service skills as I learned in, and out of the military. I used everything that I could to get some sort of help, to absolutely no avail. Please don't waste your money at this establishment. That is all, signed, hurt customer, G.A.
