I've picked some not so great hotels in the past, but this one has hands down got to be the worst one that I have been to ever. Please don't waste your time or money staying here! I could tell as soon as we walked in the door and started down the hall to the elevators that this was not going to be good, but it was 100 in the morning and we had been up for almost 24 hours at the point which included the 5.5 hour drive to get to this hotel. There was smell that permiated throughout the entire hotel and our room of old, musty and dirty. The floors were littered with just stuff, the laundry room, which we had to pass on the way to our room had trash all over the floor and you could tell there had not been any cleaning in there for a bit. When we got to our room lets just say that its a good thing that i always bring my own cleaning supplies with me because I had to wipe down just about everything! I literally had to scrub the bathtub before Id step in a take shower because it had not been cleaned out in who knows how long. It was apparne that it was simply rinsed but never cleaned. The bathroom floor had stuff all over it and surfaces of the nightstands had permanent stains and spills on them. I had to clean the mirror as the streaks were so bad I could not see myself. The smell was the same and the ac had been turned down to 62 degrees which we figured out was probably to cover the smell of the whole area. The furniture was stained and just not inviting at all. The walls are so thin that I was woken up at 500 am by a man in the hallway outside of my room talking as loud as he could to no one, and even being on the second floor the sounds of anyone talking outside by the window sound as if they are in the room with you. Their "business center" consists of one outdated desktop computer and a wireless printer that will not connect to anything to print. I had to stand at the front desk for about 15 minutes trying to ask about the printer while there was literally no one at all around. Finallly the front desk cleark for the Candlewood Suites side just happen to mention that the front desk staff had all apparently left to go to lunch, and she didn't know much about how to connect the printer (this business center was one of the biggest reasons that I chose this hotel) The website is completely false. The free coffee in the mornings is just the old leftover coffee from overnight with hardly anything to use in the coffee itself. No creamer and very little sugar. Coming back from dinner on the second night my fiance and I came through the side door which was supposed to only be accessable to guests with a key card, but it was being propped open with a big rock for anyone to come and go and it stayed like that the remainder of the night as I went down a handful of times to smoke. The ONLY good thing I can say about this hotel is that the bed was comfortable, until I was woken up by loud hall dwellers. Save yourself the time and trouble and just go to the Hilton Garden Inn...I wish I had this...
Read moreWe selected this hotel on our recent stay based on past experiences of stays over 6 years ago. My how the quality and property has changed for the worse.
The renovations are understandable and needed, so I will give a pass to the visual appearance of the entrance, corridors, and elevators.
Front desk service was excellent.
Gentleman working the desk was there for check in and check out. He was very welcoming, friendly, and personable.
Bar service was horrid.
After check-in we came down to the bar to watch the World Series game, enjoy a beer or two, and relax. The bartender was busy rushing around delivering room service. After waiting about 10 minutes, she got to us the service was impersonal and rushed. When we asked if she could tune in the game we were told to feel free to tune the TV and watch whatever we wanted. The TV didn't get any local channels, so no nationally televised World Series game for us. We decided to head back to our room and watch the game there, but no bartender. We waited another 15 minutes and finally found the busboy who fetched the bartender for us so we could settle our bill.
Hallways smelled dank and musty.
Room was clean and neat, though there was some sort of sticky residue that had apparently been running and had dried up along the bulkhead from the bedroom to the entry.
Beds were definitely in need of replacement. While we couldn't feel the springs, there was no support at all. Every minuscule movement in the bed was felt be the other.
Bathroom was good. The quality of the caulking and tile work (I assume the room was recently renovated) was effective, but unprofessional. We had a rather large spider crawl out of one of the folded towels to say hi. Not sure why there is a phone in the bathroom either. The inside of the vent was HEAVILY coated with visible dust (you know what this really is right?) build up. Towels, toiletries, etc. were clean and what you would expect.
Breakfast buffet was above average. Excellent selection, warm foods were warm and looked and tasted as you'd expect. Cereal, OJ, milk, pastries, etc. were as you'd expect. Server was nice, greeting us, checking on us several times throughout our meal, and thanking us when we departed.
Bathrooms off the main hall were clean, but recent renovations weren't properly completed. Men's room Handicapped stall walls are only secured with screw at the top supports on either side, the top of the upper door hinge is missing it's cap, and the floor isn't level (as evidence when sitting on the toilet and leaning badly to the side).
Overall, I found the hotel functional, and it served it's purpose for our needs of a place to rest overnight. I didn't feel that the quality of the hotel justifies the cost. I understand that the hotel is undergoing renovations, but it seems to be a property that is suffering from years of neglect and lack of proper maintenance and upkeep. I doubt I'd consider this hotel for future stays in the next...
Read moreThis was the most horrible experience ever. First of all, I booked a double queen room on the highest floor way back in November. However, when I got to the hotel, they had me in a king room on the first floor. Now, I will say that once I showed my receipt from November, they honored it and moved me to a queen room on the top floor, but why should I have had to do that? It was booked in November! When I walked into the room, though, it smelled like dog... stinky, nasty dog. I went straight back down and told them, but apparently, that was the only queen room that was left because it was a volleyball tournament weekend, which I was a part of, which is why we were even at this hotel. I went back down later in the evening and was given a spray in the meantime for the smell and was told that they would send someone the next day to handle it. The spray didn't work. The next day, after being gone ALL DAY at the tournament, I went straight to the desk before I went upstairs to ask if the smell was taken care of. They said yes and that a person went in to shampoo the carpet. They also told my friend that they did the same to her room because her room smelled like FISH! Other parents said their rooms were not so clean-smelling either. When I went to my room, I immediately got hit again with the awful smell of dog. The shampoo did nothing. On top of that, the carpet was still completely wet, and I didn't realize that until I took off my shoes and my socks got completely soaked - so annoying!
Besides this, the water in the pool that was supposed to be heated was cold. The girls didn't even want to go swimming anymore once they went in the first time and were in and out in 10 minutes due to the water being so cold. The hotel charged a $100 incidental fee, which I don't mind paying; however, put that in the booking so we all know before arriving. Also, we got charged for breakfast, even though on the receipt, it stated it was complimentary. It was not until another parent complained and said something and showed the receipt once again for them to honor the free breakfast. The breakfast was just okay, and it took a while for food to be replenished. When you know you have a huge crowd coming for the weekend, you should be prepared for this.
On the last day, I went to the front desk 3 times, spread out over 15 to 20 minutes, and nobody was there. I tried looking for a luggage cart and could not find one. Oh, but I did... I saw 2 staff members using two of them, throwing away trash. And from what I was told by one of them, there are only 3! And this hotel is pretty big!
I am so disappointed in this Holiday Inn. From what I gathered from other parents, other nearby hotels were the place to be, one being Tru by Hilton. I've been to many hotels for tournaments and never received this awful of service. IHG, you ought to be ashamed. I will be contacting the...
