The only good thing going for this place is the low price.
We checked in late at night, so I didn't notice most of this stuff until daylight the next day.
The worst was that after a long drive and a late night, someone decided it would be a good idea to do construction on the room adjoining ours at 7:45 in the morning. I was woken up by literal hammering on the wall, on a Saturday when the motel was busy because of a balloon festival in town (Jun 16 2018).
Floors weren't vacuumed, as evidenced by the sunflower seeds and costume threads with beads that I stepped on in the morning. Shower wasn't cleaned, there was used soap and razor covers in it, and the drain had hair and dirty scum in it. The walls of the shower were coated with a gross yellow film that was peeling off. The bathroom door was falling off the hinges, so didn't close properly. There was a used plastic drinking cup on the floor next to the toilet.
The bed was springy and soft, but useable. Unfortunately since the a/c was off until we got there (on a 93 degree day), there were far too many blankets. It took that poor tiny and aged a/c unit hours to cool the room down.
The room came with a mini fridge which was great, unfortunately it wasn't plugged in so it was also nice and warm.
There's definitely a "quaint" small town feel, but that doesn't make up for being woken up early Saturday morning after...
Read moreIt was late in the day and I had driven 800 miles before my body told me I needed to rest. All other hotels in town were sold out, and one tried taking advantage of the situation to rip me off so I was about to get back on the road when I tried The Ranch Motel. Not only did Marianne find a room for me, but she checked me in over the phone and left the door open and a receipt in the room so I could go right in and fall asleep. The next morning I got to talking with Marianne who made me some of her own coffee after hearing I have a dairy allergy and knowing I couldn't find anything else in town. We then talked for an hour about life in Salina, her life, her mother and father, the hotel and their lovely garden. What a remarkable person she is, and just so cool. We said our goodbyes and then I noticed her mother (Mai Tai) sitting near her garden and I just had to go over and say hello. We toured the garden and she taught me how to prune elm and apple trees and how to grow tomatoes and we had the best time in the lush garden while Marianne collected eggs from the chickens. These are remarkable women and I feel like the universe wanted me to have this positive, nourishing experience in the middle of a long and punishing drive. I've never been to Salina before, but I will be...
Read moreThis place was awesome, so much charm and honestly such a good value. We just needed a place to stay at the halfway mark between two points of our road trip. I found this place and am honestly so glad I did. After reading reviews, I decided I wanted to try it out as we just wanted a nice quiet, clean spot to rest and recharge before our road trip continued the next day. This was exactly that. We were greeted as soon as we pulled up by Maryanne (sorry if I'm butchering the spelling!) who was incredibly kind and immediately got checked in without even getting our of our car. We just pulled into the parking space and she opened up our room for us and gave us the rundown and gave us some bottles of water. She recommended some food spots for us if we were hungry, told us to let her know if we need anything, and let us settle in. The motel has so much character and our stay was peaceful. We would definitely stay here again if we were ever passing through in the future. The price is great, it's safe, quiet, and clean, Maryanne is an awesome host. It also feels great to support a non-chain small business owner as well, which is just the...
