The good:|- The room looks stylish, pretty lamps, nice furniture, color accent pillows and sash on bed|- The customer service, even at 4am the front desk person was pleasant and friendly|- Plenty of power outlets with USB-A (the old kind, not Thunderbolt/USB-C) chargers|- ADA-compliant bathroom that is really pretty, stylish sink, shower is really wonderful with dual heads you can run at the same time. Stylish black floor tiles on floor including shower. Shower has body wash/shampoo/conditioner dispensers which I love, I hate wasting those little bottles of shower products!|- Excellent lighting in bedroom and bathroom. Bathroom specifically has a motion sensor which is really handy.|- Fan in bathroom is great, so many hotels have no bathroom fan which leaves the room humid and stuffy, love there is a good working fan|- Pillows - there are lots of pillows that are comfortable||The bad:|- The noise - I got room 104, it is right by the office on the ground floor. I can hear every car going past on El Camino Real, every train going past, I can hear every after-hours conversation in the office as clear as if there was a only an interior door between us. The ice maker is right outside the door and I hear clearly every time someone uses it. The floors in the room above must be wood because I hear every footstep and in places the floor squeaks! Do not plan on sleeping in unless you bring ear plugs/a mask.|- The light leakage - The curtains don't close! This room is so tastefully appointed, why do the curtains not close all the way? There is a light outside that is on all night so you can't get the room to be dark.|- The bed is stiff. I'm spoiled, at home I sleep on a Sleep Number bed that is comfortable on my back or side. Not so on this bed, if you're a back sleeper you'll be totally fine. Side sleeper? Be prepared for your shoulders to hurt in the morning.|- One of the bars in the bathroom was bent down a bit like someone had taken a fall and grabbed the bar and it didn't get repaired. The shower curtain rod is rusting in spots.|- There is no place to work on your computer other than on your lap on the bed.|- There is no place other than the bed to put...

Read moreReview for Lia Hotel, San Carlos, California
I originally booked a two-night stay at the Lia Hotel in San Carlos and had such a pleasant experience that I decided to extend my stay for an additional night. The hotel is conveniently located on El Camino Real, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. For the first two nights, my stay was enjoyable, and the staff were courteous and helpful.
However, my experience took a downturn on the third night. When I returned to the hotel, I stopped by the front desk to grab another small bottle of wine to enjoy in my room. The gentleman working at the front desk, Bill, told me he couldn't find my reservation when I provided my room number. I explained that I had initially booked for two nights and extended my stay for a third night. Despite showing him my reservation confirmation, Bill insisted that I had checked out.
Bill’s attitude was less than pleasant throughout this interaction. He acted as if I hadn't checked in at all and seemed disinterested in resolving the issue. Even after I showed him my reservation again, he eventually found my booking but showed no concern when I mentioned that I had left some belongings in the room.
Furthermore, I mentioned to Bill that I had bought a glass of wine the previous night but hadn't finished it and asked if it could be replaced. He bluntly refused, and when I expressed my disappointment, he simply agreed but did nothing to rectify the situation. Bill's demeanor made it clear that he didn't care about my stay or ensuring a positive experience for guests.
This incident overshadowed what had been an otherwise enjoyable stay. It's unfortunate because the hotel itself is quite nice, with clean rooms and a convenient location. However, the negative interaction with the front desk staff on my final night left a lasting impression.
Overall, I'd rate the Lia Hotel at three to three-and-a-half stars. While most of my stay was good, the poor customer service on the last night significantly impacted my overall experience. I hope the hotel management addresses these issues to improve guest satisfaction in the...
