A cute place but definitely not an easy getaway. If a storm rolls through, the houseboat is going to rock a lot, which I wish they would've provided some more indication or mental prep for. The check in is self-check in, so you aren't expected to talk to anyone before. I kinda wish I did talk to someone in the office to know how the night may go. I was honestly terrified a couple times and couldn't sleep at all from the movements, noise, and lightning and thunder. However, I emerged unscathed. And when it's calm, it's lovely.
I think the marketing for fall should be a bit different than summer, since it is a bit cooler, storms can more likely roll in. Also the dock should have a metal railing instead of just rope -- seems unsafe when you're trying to go pee in the middle of the night. Water from rainstorms gathers in puddles on the metal surface of the dock, which could be slippery if you're not careful. Maybe a new dock with slats that let water pass through would be a good upgrade.
Also, the bed is on the back side of the pontoons instead of the middle of the unit, so I'm unsure if the houseboats are properly weighted. We just rocked a lot throughout the night because of the storm.
The hot tub looked pretty green -- not sure if it means it's clean or not.
The bathroom trailer can get wet throughout the night if it's raining and doesn't seem to dry up continually.
Not for you if you hate bugs -- spiders and midges may get it. Shop is pretty minimal in terms of supplies, but the location is near lots of attractions, downtown, mall and stores. I think the tiny houseboat works well as a one or two night getaway. A step up...
Read moreI stayed in the serenity escape boathouse it is the green and black one. If you like meeting new people and love to adventure this place is for you! This place is also for people who just need a place to sleep and not looking for anything luxury. It's like glamping. Cedar point couldn't be closer and if you don't like to ride rides go to the beach! Cedar Point has a beautiful beach with a very large sandbar and there was a live band out on the sand when I went. You can bring your own coolers, chairs, and floats it is lots of fun. I also got to experience the local farmers market in downtown Sandusky which is only like an 8 minute drive and there is lots of parking. Downtown Sandusky had food trucks, restaurants, and lots of live music. At night at the marina is when I would meet the most people just because everyone is adventuring. Everyone is friendly I sat next to the fire with complete strangers and next thing you know we were walking across the street to the bar and having coffee in the morning together. You also get to hear what others did in the area and how they landed at a floating airbnb which is very interesting. If you love a good sunrise this boathouse gets the view and you don't even need to leave the bed! I highly recommend this place and I will be back!! I was told there is a deer farm close by and epic haunted houses...
Read moreSol Stay exceeded my expectations! We stayed in cottage C with a group of 5 for 3 nights. We personally brought 2 sleeping cots and all 5 guests had their own bed and there was still plenty of room in the cottage. Even in the middle of summer despite their warnings, we had very little issues with bugs in the cottage. The price is incredible for how ridiculously close it is to Cedar Point. The amenities and waterfront view were amazing. The whole place has a very calm and respectful vibe to it. The gated private parking lot for cottage C was a lovely suprise that i did not expect, parking in places like this is usally a hassle so it was a nice touch. You can definitely fit 3 cars in there even though we only had 2. The only things to keep in mind for this location is the nightclub/bar across the street is pretty loud until 1:30am or so, especially on the weekends. However that was not a problem for us. Lastly, the cottage itself has very uneven flooring in the kitchen which can make it difficult to cook on the stove but it wasnt a huge deal. Overall, incredible place to stay, my group and I will absolutely be back. Dont stay at a Cedar Point hotel, they are smaller and more expensive. Stay at...
