Best Western Shallotte is an excellent place to stay for under $125/night if you are traveling within the Holden Beach area. Passing through and seeing some of the other local options the Best Western Shallotte is your best choice.
Very pleasant team of employees are present on all shifts. They were each happy to answer any questions we had and gave us recommendations for places to enjoy.
We stayed in room 104, which has a mixed use of space feel. Having a great king bed, a separate desk for work, an appropriate sized tv, fast internet, and an actual closet to hang our clothes were outstanding. The bathroom sink and toilet were great, yes, this is a weird compliment but if you travel enough you have come to learn a clean commode is priceless, as well as enough space to layout your toiletries.
We had three challenges with our stay. First, the shower stall is small and tight, which is caused by the second shortcoming. In the primary bedroom area you will find a Jacuzzi tub. Deciding to keep an outdated feature before, during, and after a beautiful room reservation makes sense financially, but from a use of space, the tub should have been removed. Opening up the shower area would have met the standards for today's travelers versus keeping a 90s decor piece.
Breakfast was inconsistent and we would recommend driving out in town if you are gluten-sensitive. Both days liquid scrambled eggs were served with a mystery meat. On the second day fried eggs were available, but again somehow looked poured vs. fresh. We can share, the yogurt machine was very good, refreshing, and tasty, we skipped everything else and went to the Purple Onion and Eggs Up Grill.
From a conveince view point, you are located right next to the highway, so getting around is simple and straight forward. Make a left out of the parking lot and you are on the highway. Make a right and drive just over a mile down the road and you are in town. Both directions will lead you to food,...
Read moreWe planned a 3 night stay at this hotel from February 14-17, 2025. We arrived at the hotel the evening of February 14 and check-in was good. The hotel clerk was very nice. That’s where things went wrong. We had reserved a king room with a jacuzzi tub. After getting settled in the room, my husband started the water for the jacuzzi tub, noticing that both handles were broken, and before the water was even near the jets, the hot water was gone. We continued adding lukewarm water just to see if it might be okay. After I got in the lukewarm water and turned on the jets, the motor was so loud that I couldn’t tolerate it along with the lack of hot water in the tub. My husband said that something was wrong with the motor. I got out and drained the tub and that’s when we noticed the dripping faucet at the jacuzzi tub, which was right near the bed. We had to put a towel around the faucet so we didn’t have to hear the drip, all night. We finally went on to bed and then there was some kind of rattling noise that kept us awake. We had tried to call the front desk, when we first found the issues with the jacuzzi tub, but the room phone did not work. I called from my cell phone and the sweet clerk told me that we would have to talk to the owner about the issues in the morning for a refund. We only stayed because it was so late. The next morning, we spoke to another desk clerk who advised us to email the Owner/General Manager, Mr. Patel. We did so and to this date, no response. The people that work there seem like really kind people but nothing from the owner. I filed a complaint with Best Western who told me that Mr. Patel would be notified by them of the complaint and to give him 5 business days to answer. Again, no response. We would not recommend this hotel, at all, and aren’t even sure how it got the reviews that it did. We only stayed the one night and found...
Read moreHot water and exceptional customer service is non-existent here.
My family and I needed a place to stay for our daughter’s dance competition. The Best Westerb looked promising after the recent renovation. After a long day at the dance competition we check-in to the hotel to be met by a spider on the bed and no hot water. We have a newborn and the spider was scary because it could have severely harmed our newborn. Additionally, it was just after midnight and we had no hot water. The wife and kids were furious after their long day dancing, on the beach, and dealing with a newborn.
We called the front desk about our issues and claimed they would contact maintenance with a resolution—no resolution or a follow-up. We dealt with cold showers because at this point it’s 2AM. We followed up with Sharry at the front desk and it’s the first anyone has heard of it. Contacted the mysterious GM, Mr. Patel by email since that is the only way to reach him. Also called customer service to create a ticket and they said the GM would have to fix it and should contact me back within 24-48 hours.
Now, it’s a week later and no email, no phone call, no follow-up by anyone. Front desk cannot make decisions, customer relations cannot follow-up and the GM is nowhere to be found. No one is held accountable and It’s absolutely embarrassing this place calls itself a business. I guarantee if you advertise “no hot water” on your website, no one would stay. Yet, customer relations offers me a messily “up to 30% in credits” and that’s the most they can do without the mysterious GM. Continues to tell me they’d follow-up with me and the GM will reach out. What GM? I am certain nothing will be done and they’ll keep kicking this problem down the road until I forget about...
