I just stayed 3 nights at the Shamokin Dam EconoLodge, leaving yesterday 10/3. This was one of the best experiences I've had staying at a hotel, and I say that as someone who normally stays at Hampton Inns, which are always great - but they cost 3 times what I paid per night at this Econolodge.
Here's what made this stay great for me: --It was VERY quiet. I didn't hear other guests, no doors slamming, no people running around -nothing. At most hotels you'll have some of this, but I did not here. I slept great, and I'm not a good sleeper even at home. --Clean. My room (223) was clean, from the carpet to the walls to the sheets. At some point this room must have been repainted, etc, as it is an older hotel. But this room was bright and clean, and even was updated to have 3 A/C outlets and USB ports to charge electronics on the night stand, which I need. --AC/heating unit was very quiet. So many places I've stayed these units have woken me up when they kick on and off. This one was one of the best. Did its job quietly. Like I said, I slept great. --LARGE mini-fridge, and microwave. I like to get groceries if I'm staying several days as I did here, instead of eating out all the time. This mini-fridge is the largest I've seen, more room than I needed - and it kept things real cold AND was a quiet unit! I've been at hotels where the fridge kicking on and off woke me up. --The shower not only had a lot of pressure but really hot water if you wanted it that way.
I honestly have only positive things to say about my stay here, and that's why I'm doing this review (I never do these). The people at this Econolodge (who were very nice) deserve credit for a great stay for me. Given my experience, I don't know how it's possible to have some of the awfully negative reviews I read on this site. Mine was completely the opposite.
If you are looking for a fancier hotel, with more expensive furniture, beds with 6 pillows, etc - this isn't it. But you won't pay the fancy hotel price either. ( And I got a great price through Hotwire). My room (223) was a nice, clean, quiet, room that had everything I wanted, as noted above, plus hairdryer, coffee maker, wifi that worked great, etc. The breakfast is basic too, no hot foods. But cereals, bagels, muffins, coffee.
Being from Selinsgrove originally, I can tell you this EconoLodge is very conveniently located. It's not IN Selinsgrove, but depending on traffic, you'll be there in 10 minutes or less. Plenty of restaurants, grocery stores, shopping, the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI understand that, when I chose budget lodging I would not get bells and whistles, but I should have sprung for something a little better than this.||This hotel is maybe on par with a homeless shelter. ||A couple positives about the stay. First, the front desk staff at check in was friendly. My kids enjoyed the pool, which looked clean enough. ||The property itself was run down. Weeds everywhere, which is a non issue but made the building look worse. There were several shady people wandering around, particularly in front of my room. ||Upon walking into the room, it didnāt look overly clean. The smell wasnāt great, it was a stale dirty smell. We turned the AC on to clean it out and it made a dent in the smell, but still it was not great. ||The floors were dirty, there was dust and hair everywhere. Holes in the walls, broken doors, you name it. I washed my hands and realized there was one bath towel, and one bath mat and nothing else, no washcloth, no hand towel, nothing. We had 4 people in a double queen room, so this made no sense. The beds were hard, uncomfortable, and NOISY. ||The worst part of the entire trip was the other patrons of the hotel. We returned back around 10pm and there was a party in the parking lot, right next to my car. There were people around the area drinking and smoking weed. There was a LOUD party outside of my room until I finally called the front desk to ask them to do something, around 12:30am-1. The party slowed down but then started back up shortly thereafter. I wanted to pack up, leave and find another hotel but was actually FEARFUL of walking out of my room. ||Checkout was non eventful, but the staff at the desk was not friendly, nor did he ask how my stay was. I understand why. ||I will avoid all Econolodges from this point on, and likely all properties in the Choice hotel group. If they havenāt shut this place down yet, I donāt believe they understood comfort or...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe made reservation for a room with 2 queen beds to stay one night. When we checked in, we were given key to a room with only one bed. When my husband went back to the check-in to let them know it was not the room we reserved, he was told there were no other rooms so we could either stay in the room and they would bring in a cot or we could go elsewhere (we should have left then). At the same time, another person came in who said they were choosing not to stay there and we could take their room which had 2 beds. We agreed and were given key for the other room once the motel staff checked it out to make sure it was in order. In walking to the check-in and then to the other room, we passed vomit in the hall, bags of garbage around the outdoor trash cans and empty Corona bottles in the hall. The place smelled like alcohol, and it seemed like there were many people likely living there temporarily. By the time we got to the second room, we felt uncomfortable staying there as it did not seem clean nor necessarily like the safest place. Once in the room, we turned on the air and it made a whistling noise that would not stop. After being there for a few minutes, we opted to leave and went to let the check-in person know. We asked about a refund of our money due to the conditions and were told we would need to speak with the manager the next day. We tried several times to reach the manager, but he was never there when we called (even when we called at times we were told he would be there) and he never returned our calls. We eventually disputed the charge, but were denied given we had reserved and checked in and the motel has a no refund policy. Quite an operation going on...take your money, do not take care of the place and then refuse to refund your money when you opt not to stay. Would not recommend anyone...
