The Cambria is a modern themed upscale styled hotel in Somerville. Unfortunately, while there have been some things that have made the stay more enjoyable, there have been several that would turn me to another hotel for my next visit to Boston.
The good news: the hotel seems quite safe, the rooms are reasonably spacious, the water pressure in the shower is good, and the bed is quite comfortable.
The artwork and design style is a bit off putting, however. The carpet in the hotel hallway is almost dizzying, and if you pass that field sobriety test, you may fail the one in the bathroom where the over commode artwork is literally nausea inducing. If you think I may be exaggerating, the prior occupant apparently failed that sobriety test as evidenced by the vomit chunks which were washed out of the sink bowl, but still clearly visible in the drain trap. How could we be certain it was vomit? The look for sure - but mostly the smell. The bathroom is also, despite the three lights present, one of the most poorly lit bathrooms I've ever seen in a hotel. If you need to look your best for a meeting or a wedding, look elsewhere.
Also, the walls are thinner than they ought to be for a more upscale marketed hotel, as evidenced by the very nice family next door to us, and the barn style bathroom doors don't ever get oiled, apparently, because you can not only hear the squeaking of your own but also that of your neighbor's doors.
I will say, the staff have all been very nice, personable, and helpful. Unfortunately, that is not enough to make me...
Read moreBeautiful hotel. We stayed there twice during our New England Vacation. We got the same room for our second visit, too. The lemon water was so awesome and I was allowed to fill up my thermos every morning. The valet people are so nice, especially the guy with the dreads and the guy that looks like Caleb (or was that Caleb working both areas?). Shout out to Caleb at the front desk for making sure we had everything we needed. They forgot our reserved microwave and he saw to it that we got one. He also personally walked up to our rooms when we had issues getting our keys to open the door (do not put them near your phone, it erases the info on the key) The hotel is in a great neighborhood and is within walking distance to several good restaurants. My only dislike was the bathroom doors, very pretty but they do not block bathroom odor, and lack of fan for the bathroom. I also wish the TV would have been able to hook up to my switch or that Disney + was an option on the TV. It also took me a minute to figure out that you have to have the Bluetooth switch on for the water heater to work. I loved the security of the hotel. The sound proofing was great. I did not hear any of the neighboring rooms. I did have some marching band sounds from the window, but it was not loud. I would definitely suggest this to any friends I know of visiting the Boston area. Oh, if you don't want to eat out every night, there is also a really good grocery store about 4 blocks down and you can get a microwave and the room comes with a...
Read moreThe hotel is very nice looking, nice and clear lobby and the rooms are spacious and clean. However, I wasn't overly impressed for the following reasons:
-Mandatory valet parking @ $30/night which a bit much for a moderate hotel and I do not like valet parking.
-I have a PHEV vehicle and the valet said he could plug the car in so I got out the almost new, nicely wrapped with attached velcro strap charger for him. I don't think I got my charger back as velcro strap is gone, wrapping around the converter box is half falling off, the cord is a bit greasy and grime stuck to it that seems as though its been there a while. I don't ever recall any plastic film on my charger. No response yet from the valet email provided by the front desk after I got home. I highly recommend checking/marking your charger and taking a picture of it BEFORE giving your vehicle over just in case.
-See prior reviews about hot water and sheets as they are accurate of lacking hot water and noisy sheets.
-Having a microwave is a $35 fee! Clearly money grab!
-The hotel mentions a game room but I saw no signs and nothing was said at check-in.
-The attached restaurant is pricey! Quality unknown but prices are high!
-Barndoor style is not a good idea for a bathroom in a hotel as the door doesn't close fully and hear everything happening by others. No hanging bars inside shower and the hanging and towels hooks are away from the shower so stick your towel through the shower door handle...
