For 8 weeks this summer I worked in Sault Ste. Marie three or four days a week. During the early part of my stay in the Sault I lodged at the Plaza Motor Hotel, ranked #1 hotel/motel by TripAdvisor reviewers, a ranking with which I agree. However, because the Plaza Motor Hotel does not have rooms with kitchenettes and does not offer a complimentary breakfast, I reluctantly transferred my lodging to Superior Place, which apparently is the only hotel/motel in the Sault with kitchenette units. This motel was previously a Travelodge, now owned by the owners of the Best Western across the parking lot. I stayed in three different suites at Superior Place, all three of which were wanting. The land phones did not work in all three. The clock radio in one was broken. The air conditioning unit in one was not functioning. Furniture in all three suites was decrepit. The room was okay. The AC kind of worked, eventually, though was left on fan when I arrived and felt like it was 80+ degrees on arrival. The main area has seven light fixtures, and no switch controls more than one at a time. Even with all these on, the lighting was adequate at best. The bed was comfy and clean. The bathroom was very nice, looked to be remodeled in the past 5 years or so.
Across the parking lot at the best western is where all the amenities are. There's a very well done breakfast area, though unless you book through certain sites they want to charge you $5/day to use it...Was waved for me but was still weird. The pool area...exists. Its a basic pool, the room was 80 degrees but the water was cold and green tinted? They also have an exercise room
Honestly, for the $87 I paid, its basic but a good deal to spend the night. The room was basic, the lighting was somewhat dim, but if you need to stay somewhere...
