Sonesta is a good family hotel with a little bit of a "Florida resort" feel, however my family and I did run into a few issues. For starters we checked in on a Thursday, and on the calendar in our room it stated there was a “BBQ Social” in the main building. We headed to the lobby at around 6pm, 30 minutes after the scheduled time and the women that was manning the station just looked at us and told us there was only salad left. We were a bit confused, so we asked her a few more questions and realized she spoke very little English but did speak Spanish, which we are fluent in. We asked her the same questions in Spanish and she told us that a few young children had been horse playing near the food tables and knocked over all of the hamburgers. We then asked her if there would be more and she told us there would not, they made everything they had. This was hard to believe since the platter tray that held the burgers could maybe hold about 15-20 burgers and they had broadcasted this event to everyone staying at their hotel. Sonesta Suites has 124 one and two bedroom suites to be exact according to their site and they only had 20 burgers available?! Way off. The next day, we arrived to the lobby once again to enjoy the complimentary breakfast and there were nothing but a few boxes of cereal left over and we got there one hour after start time. This happened on all of the days of our stay.
The next issue was my family and I were getting ready for bed. At around 11:30pm we opened the sofa bed and realized there were no sheets or quilts. I checked all of the closets to see if maybe housekeeping kept the linens elsewhere and didn’t find any. I then called reception and asked for them to send someone over with a quilt, bed sheets, and pillows. The receptionist let me know that they were no longer making deliveries of any items until 8am the next day; I asked her why, and she confirmed there was not enough staff to make this happen. Again – a property with so many rooms that clearly accommodates families – why would they not have a night staff?! I asked her how I could get the linens and she said she would have them ready for me to pick up at the front desk. When I got to the desk about 10 minutes later, the same woman I spoke with, then tells me they have no more quilts. I ask her how that could be possible, and she stated “We do not have enough quilts in our inventory to accommodate each room. Even though most rooms have a sofa bed, not everyone uses them so we just don’t keep that many. You have to request a quilt earlier in the day, at this time, they have all been requested”. I then asked her if I could at least have a few extra sheets, and she quickly quipped – “how many?” as if it were a problem. I asked her for three, since we would need one to cover the bed, and one for each child at the very least since the AC is on all night. She eventually brought out the linens and I went back to the room, completely baffled at what I had just heard.
Lastly, there was family reunion of some sort happening during our stay and they seemed to completely take over the hotel property. They gathered all of the furniture at the pool and patio area and put the tables and umbrella’s together and set it up like a party on Friday and Saturday. Management clearly didn’t have a problem with this, but I don’t see how this is acceptable. They did not rent a party place or buy out the place, so why should the paying patrons have to be forced back to their rooms because one family has taken up all of the room for two complete days. It was so baffling to witness this and see that no one that works at Sonesta put a stop to it. And if Sonesta does allow families to host parties on the premises then they should advertise and let their other guests know upon arrival so that it is not such a shock to see 50+ people completely hogging the place. Ultimately, the space, price, and location from the city is good, but if you’re looking for a quiet getaway with an attentive staff, this is not the...
Read moreWorst hotel stay ever!!! For a hotel with big suites they are very NOT kids/family friendly. A group of our family booked 8 suites in this hotel. We were 10 adults and 25 kids. When we arrived early so we can check in together we asked if we could stay in close proximity to each other, the front desk said we can't. (Even though they still had empty rooms close to each other). We asked to rent the conference room. (On the phone they said first come can get the conference room) They said it was booked. (Which we saw later was a lie) One brother was even told that his reservation was moved to another hotel 30 min away because they r fully booked. The room didn't have enough sheets and pillow or blankets. We asked for more, they said that they don't have anymore. The first night there was a fight in the parking lot which involved a few hundred people. Police had to be called, everyone was woken up by the noises. The next morning a manager knocks on my room door saying that they got a noise complain about our room & if it happens again they will throw us out. We told the kids to be very quite whisper when talking. And not play any loud games. After a few hours another knock on the door, they got another noise complaint. We told them we r very quite. He gave us another warning. So we decided to go outside with the kids near the pool. In 90 degree heat. After 2 hrs. The front desk clerk came looking for us saying he got another noise complaint, we told him we are not even in the room. He says there is nothing he can do. We started to argue with him and he decided to back off. We put the kids to bed early about 7pm. And at 11pm we get another knock on the door a security guard says they got another noise complaint, we invited him in to c everyone fast asleep. He said he is only doing his job and went away. We checked out in...
Read moreSonesta ES Suites South Brunswick is a great place. It has a somewhat unique layout with it's multiple separate buildings with a few suites in each building all laid out around a courtyard area with very nice paver patio with BBQ grills, propane fireplace, and plenty of seats around the pit a long with tables and chairs near the BBQs. These are located just outside of the pool area. All of which area available for use by the guest along with a guest laundry room, (with a mobile pay option) and a fitness center attached to the beautifully newly resigned lobby. The lobby is equipped with a.approx 42" flat screen TV with a beautiful and comfortable sitting area for watching TV. Separates bar a breakfast bar to give separation from the dinning area but still allow the TV to be viewed from the dinning room as well. There's also computers with printing accessibility a fire place and an area of tables if you wish to dine a way from the distraction of a TV. It's like the living room/den/kitchen you always wanted but without the worry of cleaning up after everyone. It is actually extremely well designed and modern. 5 stars on the lobby alone.
