Almost 5 stars and here's why:
Prior to leaving, I notified the front desk of two things: First, although our freezer part worked, my wife and I discovered that the fridge quit cooling in 201 on our last day, and we had to throw out our food because we didn't trust it. Second, there was an inch long x ¼ inch roach looking bug that had wings that covered its back found on the floor in 203. This was only one spotted, but I suggested to the front desk that they have them fumigate to prevent a wide spread problem.
And now the good: For Memorial Day weekend, my family of 7 booked two King size rooms at this recently renovated hotel for two nights. From my first contact with the front desk to checkout, there's so much to love about this hotel. I called and spoke with Sherry at the front desk. She raved about the hotel, answered all my questions, spoke about the guest dinners M-W, and promised to put a note on file so that our rooms could be side by side. When we arrived and also throughout our stay, I had no problems turning left or right into the parking lot and I had ample parking. The hotel itself is minutes from I95 giving you a gateway to traffic or you can stay on Route 1 to avoid a lot of the traffic. You're also 6 minutes away from Walmart, Aldi and some restaurants.
At Check-in, the front desk person cheerfully and courteously greeted me as a rewards member and the rooms were side by side 201 and 203. She also made sure we had bedding for the pull out couches. I appreciated her forethought. Although the carts had leftover pet hair on them, I used 1 of 2 luggage carts to unload my van. This is definitely a back saver. The hotel has two elevators that arrived quickly each time. The hallways are well lit and there is a long section of windows so you can overlook the breakfast area and it also add lights to the hallway. I found our rooms clean and odor free. When we needed extra towels, the front desk politely provided them. When we needed additional ice for our coolers, the staff loaded us up too. They went the second mile. All appliances (fridge, dishwasher, stove top, microwave, and toaster) seemed to be working properly. We used the stove top to fry up chicken for one meal and steak for another. We used the cutting board to chop lettuce and the pots to make broccoli and Alfredo sauce. We used the microwave to make popcorn. I appreciated the deep sink in the kitchenette along with the disposal. We found the fridge spacious. For the bathroom, I appreciated the bright lights and deep sink there. There was also plenty of space to store your toiletries on the bathroom counter tops. However, I wish the bathroom had a fan to help with shower steam and also for when people used the toilet. My wife would have like a hair dryer. This is the one time she didn't bring one. There was an iron, iron board, safe, and extra pillows in the bathroom closet. The king size bed slept well, and the kids slept like rocks on the pullout couch. When leaving, I had no trouble making a left or right on to Route 1.
For breakfast, I loved that everyone ate for free and found something they could eat. There was plenty of food, plates, napkins, cups, and cutlery. I loved the link sausages, and the kids enjoyed making their own waffle. Although the pool is 20 x 50 (rough guess), my 5 kids found it fun both nights. The first night, they had it all to themselves. The second night, 10 more people showed up. Everyone had a place to sit that needed one and there were plenty of pool towels on site. Our room key cards didn't work for he pool; the front desk had to let us in each time. She said there was a battery issue with the card reader. The chlorine level was nice; it didn't burn the eyes. Across from the pool is the gym and coin free laundry machine. In the gym, my older boys ran on the tread mill, lifted a few weights, and drank from the water cooler. My wife love the free laundry, and she found the basket provided in your room very convenient. We brought our own detergent.
As I opened, there is a lot to love about this place. My main two area of concern, we threw out $49 in food (Organic Beef, chicken, heavy cream, cottage cheese, Organic Almond milk, boiled brown eggs, mayonnaise, and butter) due to the fridge not cooling in 201 the second night and the one "roach looking bug" we found in 203. At the time, I didn't think to take a picture of the bug; we were in the middle of cooking steak, and I didn't see another bug. The bug seemed like an outlier given how clean the rooms were. However, I relayed these larger concerns to the front desk before checkout. Smaller concerns include: for the smaller children not used to dogs, I saw two midsized dogs that may scare smaller children and two times I heard dogs barking as I walked down the hall. But the dog barking doesn't bother me. I think my own 5 children were probably louder at times in our rooms than the dogs.
Overall, I would rate the place 4.0 stars; and if I'm ever in the area again, I will return. It would be 5 stars minus the fridge issue, pet hair on the luggage carts, the one "roach looking bug," and the pool door lock...
Read moreI have been an IHG Rewards Platinum member for many years and try to stay in IHG hotels exclusively. If I am going to be in an area more than one night and there is a convenient Staybridge Suites it is normally my first choice. The rooms are superior, the amenities I require are presented well and it's usually the best value. Not so in this hotel. I will give them an average for ease of reservations and check in but after that.... I noticed on my reservation confirmation that I had a room preference of "away from the elevator" this may have been set after an experience with a noisy elevator and noisier neighbors years ago but isn't something I really require. A good thing as my room door was a mere 4 steps from the elevator. Not a problem for me here but my first indication of the lack of attention to detail prevalent in this facility. Our room was not up to the standards I've come to expect of a Staybridge, or any other major hotel, it could best be described as 'tired'. The carpet was worn, frayed and stained. The wood furniture was worn and chipped, the desk chair worn and torn. The couch, worn and sagging. Internet..... internet was slow to unusable at any time of day or night. Even cell service, (AT&T) was very limited in the room. The room was reserved for 4 people, two queen beds and I'll even assume a pullout under the tired sofa making the room capacity 5 or 6. There seemed to be four of every required dish in the cabinets but two straight chairs, the desk chair, the sagging couch and nothing that really resembles a table. I may be mistaken but it seemed this room was significantly smaller than other 1 bdrm units I have seen. This is an extended stay hotel...??? I was happy to see 4 towels in the bathroom, a detail frequently overlooked. Linen exchange on day two left us only 2 towels, requiring a trip to the front desk for two more. Day 3, all towels were removed, 1 replaced, another late night trip downstairs. A good point, the AC worked great. The unit was located in the bedroom making it the cooler, and noisier, room, a plus for me. The hot water was very impressive too but there was no non-skid surface in the tub. A little soap and water made a very slippery surface. Another positive experience was breakfast. It was sufficient in choices and it varied each day and best of all it is included with your stay. However once you got your breakfast there was very limited seating. I counted 20 chairs, for a hotel with an advertised 83 rooms. Perhaps we were expected to carry our breakfast back to our rooms but there wasn't anyplace to comfortably sit and eat there either! The couches and living room type chairs in the breakfast area need replacement I would think this space could be better utilized as dining area. The attached room is a "theater" I wonder how often it really is used? Lastly, thinking of space, parking is very limited. We were told there was a full house the first night we were there. Returning from dinner we had to park at the 7/11 next door. I asked the front desk if there was additional parking somewhere and was told to "leave my car at the 7/11, as long as you don't park right in front of the store they don't usually mind", not very comforting. I hope that the quality of the Staybridge Suites in general are not declining as this one has. They will remain my choice hotel, except in...
Read moreIf I could give negative stars I would, I have no idea how this hotel is rated 4.4stars! We asked twice before booking if things were being properly sanitized because our son gets sick easily and were assured they “had increased their cleaning standards and were using medical grade disinfectant”. We brought extra cleaning supplies because we knew we would need to sanitize again to feel safer during the pandemic. However, we were not prepared for how much cleaning we would actually need to do. Upon arrival, the counter top and tables were dirty. Every single wall was disgusting, marked with scuffs, scratches and finger marks. The bathroom floor had a spill of some sort on the tile that you could see from the toilet that I had to wipe up. It came up easily which meant that no one had bothered to mop the floor. The headboard had greasy hand prints and the pull out couch/sofa bed was broken & sunken in to the point where you could feel the wood when you sat down. We emptied the contents of our cooler to the fridge upon arrival and the next day things were barely cold. I ended up having to throw our lunch meat out because I was worried it had spoiled. Even the sign for the door was crusty with something spilled all over it.
We notified the two young women downstairs at the front desk the first night and they were willing to let us move into another room but when we checked that one, it was the exact same but with a better couch and a noisy ac unit instead of a noisy fridge and there was coffee spilled on the telephone and night stand. We decided to just stay where we were since we had already done our best to sanitize. The front desk staff the first night were very friendly and accommodating and did what they could to be helpful. I spoke with management the next morning and he had housekeeping bring us extra couch cushions for the broken couch and additional blankets for the hard beds. We bought ice from across the street to put in our cooler to keep our food cold and are finishing out our stay since we paid through Expedia and can’t get a refund. We called the main number to express our concerns & complaints as well as the substandard conditions of this 4.4star hotel and thankfully, they were able to compensate some of our money.
We have stayed in more hotels than I can count over the years because my husband travels a lot for work and we have never had this many issues in one place before. I knew traveling & homeschooling kids during a pandemic would be tricky but surprisingly, the kids traveled well and thanks to the hot spot on our phones, even the wishy washy WiFi wasn’t a problem so they were able to do their schoolwork. However, I was completely blindsided by the condition of the room.
The hotel lobby is nice and the pool is okay but we won’t be staying here the next time we visit. I highly recommend you save your money and stay somewhere else. I would of rather spent less days at a nicer hotel where my kids could do their school work comfortably in a...
