First, let me say that I do not usually choose Fairfield Inns. For similar prices, their competitors have better value. We booked this hotel because all the hotels we usually book in the area were full. We have stayed in Fairfield Inns before and found them to be about as satisfactory as this one.
Our first night we checked in about 930 pm and wanted a late dinner. The only place open was Denny's, unless we wanted to drive 30 miles to the next town. I have had so many bad experiences with Denny's in different locations, that I no longer chance any of them. We just made sandwiches in our room. The hotel does sell wine and beer at their convenience center (front desk). I made the mistake of getting some wine from there. I should have gone down the street to 7-11 and bought and entire 1.5 liter bottle of better wine for the price they charged for a single serve bottle. Never again!
We stayed here 2 nights and ate breakfast the 1st morning, not impressive. Promptly at 9am, the attendant was in a hurry to put the food up. The 2nd day we skipped breakfast and went next door to the wonderful Castiglia's Italian Restaurant for lunch. A much better choice! Check out and opening are both at 11 am.
Both days we stayed, there was a herd of rude children running up and down the halls yelling as early as 8 am until checkout. We had a room right next to the elevator, which was convenient for loading and unloading our luggage, but it proved to be very annoying to have loud, undisciplined children right outside our door with parents also yelling down the hall at them. Try to get a room at the ends of the hall, away from the elevator if you stay here.
The other thing I need to comment on is the Wi-Fi connection. It is almost non-existent. I had to use my cell phone hotspot to get a decent connection.
This hotel had very small rooms, barely enough to squeeze all the furniture in and have a small path to walk around it all. We had 3 people in a double queen room and were constantly either bumping into each other or having to move out of the way so someone could walk past. The beds in the room were a little hard compared to our usual hotels.
The bathroom was extremely small and there was barely enough room to squeeze between the fixtures so you could close the door. The water saving shower heads caused one to have to take a longer shower to rinse off. How was that saving water??
This would not be my hotel of choice if we stay in...
We booked this hotel due to the fact that it had an indoor pool. The first night we came down to swim and the pool was closed for mechanical issues. It was closed until afternoon of the next day. We can down the following morning and again, the pool was closed for maintenance. We were able to use the pool one time our entire stay. Considering the nightly price of the hotel, which I'm sure is due to having an indoor pool, I believe there should have been some sort of compensation for not being able to use the pool. Also when you asked when it would be open nobody would tell you a thing.
The beds only have feather pillows on them. I cannot sleep on a feather pillow due to an allergy. There were no other pillows available so I had to go out and buy pillows, which weren't cheap when you have to buy 4 of them.
One last thing, my granddaughter was sick one evening and threw up. A little got on one of the sheets and took the sheet off and carried it down to get a new one. There was nobody at the desk and I waited and waited (it was about 8:30pm). So I started walking around looking for someone. Suddenly a girl that was sitting at one of tables in the lobby with her laptop gets up and walks over and walks behind the counter. This was after 15 minutes of me standing there. I thought she was a guest because she clearly saw me and just sat there. Then I tell her what happened and she says ok, takes the sheet and walks away. She finally comes back about 10 minutes later with a sheet. She never told me what she was doing, where she was going, etc. She was not friendly and actually seemed mad that she had to get up and do something.
The only good things I have to say are, the breakfast was excellent and the rooms were very nice and updated.
I will not be staying at this hotel again and I come out often due to my daughter and grandchildren...
Read moreDriving from NY to Asheville this was our first night. We have stayed at many Fairfield Inns in different states. Each one looks about the same from the outside. But rooms and service varies from one to the next.
This one feels older and in need of renovation. The bathroom is old and has a bathtub with a shower. I did miss a real nice shower like other Fairfield Inns. I had to unplug the clock so I had an outlet to plug in my chargers. Most Fairfield Inns have USB (mostly type A but some with type C) near the bed and near the TV and outlets to plug in other electronics. There was one outlet near the desk. The TV is old but who watches TV in hotels anymore? We were staying here one night so none of that was a real issue.
The fitness center and pool are fine. One machine was out of order at the fitness center. No hot tub.
Breakfast was mostly like other Fairfield Inns but a little step down. Scrambled eggs as opposed to cheese omelets. The waffle maker didn’t have a timer on it like all others I’ve used at Fairfield Inns. Just little things like that. No big deal, just everything wasn’t as nice as we have come to expect.
There was never anyone at the front desk. The worker was almost always in the back room. It was easy to call her if you needed something. Most other Fairfield Inns have someone at the front desk to welcome you and they say hi each time you walk into the main lobby.
We hiked Signal Knob which is about 18 minutes away. It was a great 4.5 mile hike after a long day in the car. We had dinner at Los Toltecos Mexican Grill in town and enjoyed it.
Everything is clean and well kept. I don’t want to sound too picky, just need to have your expectations ready. I would be happy to stay here again. The area is beautiful. I hope it’s on the list of places to get renovated. It gets a four star review compared to other...
