Comfort Suites Sulphur-Lake Charles — Hotel in Sulphur

I was very disappointed with my recent stay. I booked the same hotel 2 years ago and it was amazing. The quality of service has deteriorated tremendously. First, on July 25, my room was located on the 2nd floor and once I got to the door the key card wasn’t working. Had to go down to the service desk 2 different times for the receptionist to activate the card. On my third trip down, she came up and stated “ I have to hold the handle and keep forcefully sliding the key card in and out until it works.” Strike one. Secondly, I was out the next day attending my grandmother’s funeral on July 26. When I returned to my room I had to go back to the receptionist desk to get assistance getting my door open. I went ahead because she was assisting another customer. When she made it to the door, I had jabbed it enough to get it unlocked. But when I opened the door, we both saw the previous night’s trash still in the room, the beds were not made and towels had not been replaced. Strike two. The attendant asked but then saw there was not a “do not disturb “ on the outside of my room. She stated she would take the trash.I asked if she could bring more towels because I didn’t want to leave and have to fight with the door upon my return again. It took her a few minutes, because she (and lady on Friday night) was the only person there. Thirdly, the room itself was not up to par. There was not enough lighting in the room once the curtains were closed. I thought the bathtub was dirty when I arrived. When I went to clean it I realized that was rust. I had to set one of the towels in the tub to shower. There was also rust on the AC unit. The Friday night receptionist was called back to the room because I didn’t realize the tv wasn’t working because the cable wires was disconnected from the television set. By Saturday night, I was defeated. It already wasn’t going to be an enjoyable trip because of the occasion. And then to fight with a door and everything compounded with the room, I couldn’t leave...

We like this motel. The staff is friendly. The rooms are a good size, and the motel is on the quiet side. Breakfast is above average.

That said, there are some things that we wish the architect had done differently. First, the room is large enough to do a layout where the bed is not on top of the AC/HT unit. As is, the return air to the unit is pretty much blocked by the bed. While the unit does keep the room cool, its location so close to the bed (maybe 12" of free space) makes it difficult to get into bed on that side. Then there is the issue of the unit not being that quiet. One has to wonder how often the filter is maintained with such a cramped space.

The door to the bath would be better served were it a barn style door where it slides on the wall outside the bath. As designed it forces one into uncomfortable positons to open or close the door.

Finally, and we think this was a change, there is the coffee pot. While the pot is pretty much the same found in all motels, its placement drives you crazy. We remember in prior stays that the coffee pot was located in a lower position where it was easy to make coffee. This time the coffee pot is on the top most shelf on the unit housing the refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot. A 7 foot tall person would have no problems with the coffee pot. The rest of us normal sized people actually need a small step ladder to make coffee.

Other than that we do like this motel. The layout is not their fault, this is a design mandated by corporate office and hopefully has been discarded on newer builds.

We will stay there again. We can cope with the idiosyncrasies of the design layout for...

To all my trucker friends(and those that appeciate us truckers). This is a great hotel to stay at, the front desk staff, the breakfast staff, and the cleaning people are very very friendly. They treat you very well from checkin to checkout. Their very attentive to your stay, have any questions/problems, they take care of it very quickly. The rooms are very clean, have microwave/mini fridge, good size TV with good reception, clean bathroom, I didnt have any problems with noise levels or related. They have a nice pool, fitness room, breakfast area is large. Now about the breakfast it is excellent (free complimentary breakfast), has a good variety, they change some of the menu daily, I mean from my own experience I have no complaints. The staff here is very friendly to you on the phone, when you arrive, during your stay, and upon checkout. They did move me to another room upon request of an internet issue but they did it very quickly and nice and the room internet was good, I mean the service here is excellent in my opinion. If your a drama dude like me, you will find that the staff here will joke with you, I mean they just fit in with whatever personlity you have..its an amazing place. I want to say I called 4 other hotels in the area before I chose this place, I am glad I stayed here for several days.
