We booked a reservation about a month ago for our friends wedding. Upon checking in we paid the full amount for a two day stay here at Sumas Mountain Lodge and our checkout date is tomorrow Sunday the 5th. We had a pretty relaxing morning and knowing we would be staying at the lodge most of the day I put a please do no disturb sign on our door as we are getting ready for a big day.
My significant other was using the restroom and I was relaxing on the bed when I heard a knock at the door with some chatter. I ignored it hoping to not be bothered since putting the “do not disturb sign” on our door. I heard another knock so I proceeded to check who was at the door. A lady in a white shirt and a male, what looked like to be a cook was standing outside my door. They told me without any greeting “you needed to be out of this room and you were supposed to leave two hours ago” very hostile like. Just me, answering the door and I’m by myself a woman being confronted by not just one but two workers was intimidating. Which the lady was in no hotel attire at all to begin with which made me feel very uncomfortable. Why was I being confronted by not one employee but two? I told them we had two nights here and we were to check out tomorrow morning and that I could even show them my card to prove I paid two nights. He followed with “ you will have to pay $25 extra for not leaving in time”. Again, looking at them very confused telling them I paid for two nights and we were here for a TWO night stay. Both looked at other and said we “have someone else who is coming here to stay in this room”. Again, I told them I had paid for a two night stay and went back in my room.
What kind of service is this? Not only did we pay $160 dollars for a two night stay but supported the restaurant by eating twice, once for dinner and this morning for breakfast. Now spending + $250 We are paying customers and quite frankly never had I had an experience such as this at a hotel/lodge.
We will not be returning and some explanation as to why this happened would be...
Read moreI recently stayed at Sumas Mountain Lodge after an exhausting 18-hour international travel day, and unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. When we booked, we were excited about the large spa bath mentioned for the rooms, but we ended up in the only room with a regular bath. It was frustrating, especially after such a long journey. At that point, it was too late and we were too tired to look for other accommodations.
Upon arrival, the welcome at the reception left much to be desired. The staff was neither hospitable nor friendly, and I was informed that I couldn’t use my American Visa debit card because it didn’t have a name on it. Many debit cards today don’t print names, so we were forced to use our Canadian foreign currency Visa card, which was inconvenient.
The entrance and staircase felt dark and unwelcoming, and at the top of the stairs, there was a storage area that detracted from the overall appearance. Additionally, the back fire escape door was wedged open, which raised safety concerns. I took the initiative to close it myself.
While the room had an interesting decor style, it felt a bit disjointed and dark. The AC unit was quite noisy, making it difficult to enjoy music without turning it up excessively. A couple of light bulbs were out, and there was limited access to plug points; I had to kneel down to plug in devices while simultaneously unplugging others, which was quite inconvenient. Be prepared for this random loud water pipe noise every so often which woke us up, and not to mention the lack of support received from the mattresses, yes we tried both beds and they are so soft and lack any kind of back support giving a really uncomfortable ability to have a good night sleep.
The beds creaked a lot, and some mirrors weren’t cleaned properly. Overall, the environment served for a mediocre night’s sleep, especially with the loud wedding party nearby. While the lodge serves a purpose, I wouldn’t recommend it for a comfortable and...
Read moreApparently the only hotel in Sumas but a nice one in a "log lodge" ... nice clean big rooms that had a lot of character and felt rustic but comfortable. Must be very slow in Sumas ... you check in electronically and usevyour phone as key, no front desk or concerierg. Kind of on your own. Most of the expected amenities including fridge, TV with dish, kureig, well lit bath with night light, hair drier and good towels and toiletries. Not pleasedvwith the beds ... Memory foam mattresses which are not my thing ... felt like sleeping in thick mud, multiple pillow choices. The shower / tub plumbing was broken ... couldn't plug the tub to take a bath, the shower activator on the tub spout was broken and wouldn't fully engage so when showering 99% of the water filled the tub and only a trickle dribbled out of the shower head and the shower head couldn't hold its position so it drooped. Wasted scores of gallons of water trying to take a miserable shower. No front desk staff or number to call. Similarly all the electric recepticles were broken so that items plugged in almost fell out due to gravity and every outlet was used by room items leaving no where to plug in laptop or phone chargers. Hadva very small balcony overlooking the gas station and train tracks. The attached restaurant was very mediocre food at incredibly high prices ... $20 for a equivalent McD qtr lb burger, $5 for a 20 ounce happy hour beer. And it's not open for breakfast. Note there is only three places to eat in town and theybare all mediocre and overpriced. Stayed for three days because I was working at the LPOE, otherwise not sure this would be any sort of...
