Incredibly thoughtful and innovative idea by the MultiCare Foundation as it seeks to provide the much needed support for families who have dependents in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Tacoma General Hospital. Funded by MultiCare and numerous donors, Tree House provides families with low-budget accommodation but top-tier living facilities located just 2 minutes walk from the hospital. It doesn’t get any more convenient than this. Facilities are hotel-grade with a communal touch. There is a shared living area fitted with numerous dining tables, sofas with recliners, a faux fire place, resource room, playroom and a laundry. It’s got a huge kitchen with 5 cooking areas, 4 ovens, a pantry and an incredibly stocked set of utensils and cookware. 2 standing freezers and 2 fridges for use by guests to store their own food items or enjoy from limited donated goodies. Hygiene is paramount and shows in the cleanliness of the place, hand sanitizers, use of gloves in the kitchen, insistence on dishwashers over hand-washing and more. Alcohol is not permitted on this campus and that a PLUS. Security is assured as every family has a key to their living quarters. The building itself can only be accessed via coded-door locks which changes frequently to eliminate unauthorized entry. Background checks are also conducted on prospective tenants. Every room has a flat screen TV with a DVD player, heaters, 2 beds, a closet with drawers, a fridge, a bathroom with unfailing hot water and of course, hand sanitizers. There is a playground outside for the kids and an outdoor gym for working out. Free DVD rentals too. Truly designed for families needing logistical assistance to care for those that are dearest to them. My family and I have been truly blessed to have stayed here while caring for our son at the NICU. Our appreciation to the staff and donors of Tree House. You guys are just what this world needs to make it a better place!
