We are Marriot loyalists & were very disappointed, we would not stay here again nor recommend the Hotel Duval.
Parking was very dicey, there was never a spot in the lower parking lot, so we parked in the upper lot. It was poorly lit, garbage was strewn & the walk with luggage in the rain was dangerous. The steps were so dark we could not even see them so we walked up and down the ramp for cars.
Upon check in, we denied housekeeping for 3 days & requested extra towels & toiletries. Our room was small & compact, there were only towels & a robe for one person, one night. We called numerous times, went down to the lobby, waiting hours for hours to get supplies after being told someone would be right up.
There were no tissues in our room, the toilet paper roll had @ 1/8 of the roll left. We called 3x, again went down to the lobby before getting a new roll.
One of the 2 elevators was not working. We spent a lot of time waiting for the elevator, crowding in with others (during a pandemic), stopping at every floor to let others on and off. There was no sanitizer in or near the elevator.
The bathroom had 2 glass doors that did not close for privacy. When one of us went to the bathroom during the night the other was woken up by the lights and the glass door opening.
The drip coffee maker was very dated, it didn't work, smoke poured out and water dripped all over the counter.
The refrigerator didn't keep our leftovers. It was filled with ice and froze everything inside. We tried adjusting the dials but it still didn't work.
We had to remove & replace the batteries in the remote to get the TV to work. The guide didn't work either so we couldn't see the list of programs.
The clock radio didn't work, the time was never correct. Although I reset it, the time was never correct. We were not able to unplug it nor turn it around, it was frustrating.
Our room on the 5th floor was very noisy. When we didn't hear street noise and sirens we heard doors slamming and people talking at the elevator. In the morning we saw clothing on the floor, there appeared to be sorority girls on our floor going from one room to another.
I'm glad I brought a bag with masks, sanitizer wipes, Clorox Wipes & paper goods because we didn't see any during our stay nor were we offered any.
Regarding the elevator that was out of order, I was told by one of the Duval staff members who told me she was from Boynton Beach; on Thursday Aug 20 in the morning that the broken elevator would be in service later that day. She also mentioned that they was an incident in the hotel. We then got into the elevator to go to the lobby. In the elevator was a police officer and another Duval staff member. In the elevator with me the police officer asked the other staff member when the elevator would be fixed. This other staff member told the police officer that the elevator would not be repaired till the following week. The staff member from Boynton Beach made a face towards this other staff member indicating that she should not have said that.
Upon checking out, we were not thanked for staying nor were we asked how our stay was.
We could go on and on, we thought that this was the way things would be traveling during the Covid Pandemic. Then we stayed at the Grand Bohemian in Orlando next and had a fabulous stay. Everything worked, the room was plush, comfortable & very quiet. There was hand sanitizer in the 3 elevators, we were offered wipes upon check in & they were in our room. The pool, valet, gym, restaurant, bar & Starbucks were opened. We had 2 bathrobes and plenty of towels, toiletries and paper goods for...
Read moreOverall the hotel had very helpful and kind staff and was a clean facility w/ upscale, modern décor. The overall space in the room as far as storage was wonderful. Lots of spaces/cubbies/shelves as well as dresser. Wish there had been more than 3 hangers in closet. The bed comfort and pillows was wonderful. Nice amenities in bathroom. The shade on the window also offered the option of opening to let the light of day in as well as full blackout.
some oddities:While I appreciate the modern design, the bathroom and the other spaces are NOT separated w/a normal wall but a frosted glass sliding door, leaving virtually NO privacy from any noises or anything else for the person using the bathroom. the sink/toilet/shower are all right next to each other w/the toilet super close to the shower where anyone w/a bit larger of a body would feel very cramped when sitting down. I am very thin and had no issues but it really stuck out to me as something that would be very uncomfortable if I had been a slightly larger person. Traveling alone, I had no issues w/any privacy. the room layout was literally PERFECT for me as a solo traveler. I would not hesitate to come back. however if traveling w/someone would opt for a larger or different room. (I was in a one Queen room). My sink was clogged and w/just a very short time of use would fill up and I would have to wait for it to drain before using again. I did not report this but I would think that little things like that should be checked in very room before it is given to the next guest. The shower floor which was pebbled and beautiful to look at was really uncomfortable to my feet to the point I had to wear my flip flops in the shower. It was literally raised stones on bottoms of feet and not pleasant. am sure families w/little kids feet may have same issue. I am not a baby when it comes to discomfort so I promise if I am saying it, am sure i'm not the only one to feel that way. sounds silly but w/o my flips flops, showering would have been an issue! Bring flip flops! Lastly, I realize I came on a holiday weekend and of course its understandable for hours to be different from usual but the room service closed an hour early the day before thanksgiving (wed) and the rooftop bar closed early the day after thanksgiving w/friends . I found out both of these things at the time when trying to use them. It would have been very helpful to have someone said this upon check in and be informed of the changes...
Read moreHere's the deal.. I go to Marriot because of the reputation they carry. Yet, this one definitely changed my perception. I called ahead of time to see if they have any rooms available. After speaking to the woman, I had to reserve a room, since there was only one left. I fathom sometimes hotels tell customers, that they are short on rooms to fill them up. A tactic to get cusomters worried they might not have the availbility to get a room. She said the room would be about one hundred thirty, not including taxes and fees. So I made the reservation, an hour before arrival. Upon arrival I noticed this hotel is not as swanky as I would think. The paint is chipping. The front of the front desk was kicked in and damaged. I asked to use the restroom and the themed continued. More paint neeed to be retouched to the already layered amount. The bathroom toilet liner container with a layer of dust. Yet, I pushed those things aside. I asked to see a room and the woman gave me a unpleasant look and now I am dealing with another employee. He would take us to see some rooms available. I figured, she was trying to play the game of running out of rooms. So we went. The elevator needed to be cleaned or updated. One room was musky, the next had a foul ordor, the final had dingy sheets and at that point we declined to see any more rooms. There was one room left, but we saw enough. I declined to stay there and both employees gave us a nasty look. As if to say their professionalism was there to begin with. You cannot wear typical streetwear here. They expect more formal wear. It appears. Anyway, the man said we would get charged for the night and that the hotel has a 72 cancellation policy. I thought that was weird, since an hour barely past upon getting a reservation. When we left the hotel I was told that in the other bathroom there was a homeless person trying to bathe at the sink and the stalls had urine on the floor. So fancy this place is. Needless to say, I had to reach out to my credit card company to explain the situation, after they tried to charge my card several times with different denominations. BTW, they room was over two hundred and forty dollars, about a hundred more than she quoted for fees and taxes. My take on this is that this Marriot has soiled the name...
