Youth hostel rules with Ritz-Carlton prices. Expensive ($110/ night), noisy, and needs professional maintenance. Prices are high for such a little town in off-season. We visited in November and arrived at 8pm to find the owner had almost given up on us. We were also informed that there were a myriad of rules, like a youth hostel. With not a single place in this little burg open except a smoky bar with frozen pizzas, why not offer some food stuffs? On to the room details: The dead bolt was broken and "fixed" with a cheap little cable loop. A hole in the wall was repaired with a mis-matched piece of paneling. The bathroom was nicely appointed, but my wife found a cockroach in the room. NICE. On the door is posted all the rules, one of which is a warning of a charge of $150 for "excessive uncleanliness." Who defines this? On top of this, on the 2nd day, the owner placed the only other resident directly above us. We were given the gift of hearing this guy stomp around all night long and then again early morning, each foot step giving a different sound. Why would you put the 2nd resident right on top of your previous residents? Passive-Aggressive anger? Who knows. Not recommended- drive to Worland or Buffalo and save yourself some aggravation, we did and paid $87 for a King Suite at the Holiday Inn in Buffalo without the bonus cockroach.

Oh my gosh! So they are out in the middle of absolutely nowhere, little tiny town called 10 sleep. You have to ask what the name 10 sleep comes from. From the outside looks pretty normal, they only motel in town, the drive coming in from Buffalo is absolutely beautiful, the drive leaving town for the first 10 miles going towards Buffalo is even more beautiful. The dining room, and that’s what it is, it’s full of homemade food breads you name it five star breakfast hands-down. Rooms are fantastic, it’s almost like they take every extra dime that they make and put it right back into the hotel. So it’s an absolute jewel in the middle of a desert, we can’t stop talking about it. I would actually go there with my wife as a destination. The bathrooms look like they pulled them out of a Hyatt Regency.

We SO enjoyed our overnight stay in mid June 2023. I believe the couple running the place stated they have been here for two years. They are doing a terrific job! They were pleasant, accommodating, and I enjoyed visiting with them. The rooms are clean and have what is needed. Our king bed was the most comfortable of our entire 10 day vacation. Local artist supplies terrific hand made soap which is also available for purchase. Do not skip her “famous” cookies, nor the fabulous breakfast. Farm fresh eggs, in house made bread and jams rounded out this fabulous meal. I didn’t want to leave! Sorry I forgot to take photos at the Inn. I would go back to Ten Sleep just to chill out at the Carter Inn.

I have never written a bad review, but my experience was so terrible I feel I should warn other people.

I booked a room months in advance for a wedding. I also confirmed by calling a few weeks in advance. The owner was the one I spoke to both times. She confirmed; said she had us down for the room plus a rollaway, so she clearly had the details of our reservation.

Then we showed up during the narrow check-in window (3-6pm), which pushed us to right before the wedding. Nobody was in the office or answering either of their telephones. We waited. The owner finally came out of the building for something else and we said we were waiting to be checked in. She was annoyed and said she was sold out. I told her we had a reservation. She huffed and said she'd look. Looked at her book and still said no. I told her I'd called to confirm. I asked her name and confirmed that she was the owner, the same person I'd spoken to when I booked AND when I confirmed.

Later at the wedding I found out she had messed up reservations for the wedding party and so it seems she gave our room to them since they arrived the previous night; I get that mistakes happen, but she seems to have knowingly given our reservation away without bothering to let us know. She just tried hiding from us during check-in time and acting like she didn't remember us, and she offered no apologies. She was rude to other guests from the wedding too.

This is a very small town with limited hotels so this was more than a minor inconvenience. We got lucky and found a cancellation at a lodge back up the mountain, but it made our family WAY late to the wedding and we had to drive back up the mountain twice that night. However, if it weren't for the luck of finding any sort of room we would have had to drive back to Casper that same night...

I stayed here when I was riding the BDR trail on my dirtbike. The owners live in location so they are always available. |Check in: Fast and easy. Very friendly and helpful. ||The stay: The room was clean, didn't smell gross, and had some fresh updates. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were nice as well. I walked over to the sleepy coyote for a bite to eat. Very good. The town only has 246 people, so everything is in walking distance. ||The next morning: Breakfast is included with the stay. This is where this place shines as well. They open up a room for you to go sit in to eat. They made me eggs and sausage to order. They also had homemade pastries, homemade sourdough bread, and homemade jam. I ate my breakfast, sat and talked with the owners for a bit as well. ||Overall: The Carter Inn is fantastic. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The owners truly know great customer service and make sure their guests' needs and wants are taken care of. There are only 8 rooms so make sure and book early! ...
