We were hoping to get the one 2-bedroom suite at the Margaretville Mountain Inn Bed & Breakfast since our kids love what my son refers to as a "Sleep & Eat," and the breakfast got rave reviews, but it was booked. :( So, I saw they had another property called the Village Suites that had two 2-bedroom apartments. After checking in at the Margaretville Hotel down the road, we made our way through the quaint downtown to find this old Victorian home with a cute, colorful paint job. We had the bottom floor, and the 2nd floor was not rented that night, so it was very quiet except for the little babble of the brook along the back of the property. We were only staying one night, so we really didn't need the full kitchen, but it was nice to have a separate living room to watch TV and a dining room table that we used to play some of the board games that were available there. But the clincher for us was having a second bedroom with 2 twin beds for our kids - we are done sharing 2 double beds in a studio hotel room with our 10 and 8 year old! After tucking them in, we were able to retire to our separate bedroom with a comfy king bed. All bedrooms and large rooms had window AC units, which were necessary on this hot, muggy night. The place is definitely dated, although the living room appeared to have newer furniture. Our kids are used to more contemporary decor, and felt the "old-timiness" of the place bordered on spooky (to be truthful, I kinda did too!). But we all got a good night's sleep and had plenty of energy for our rail bike ride in Phoenecia the next morning. Very clean. No complaints. Free wifi. Only inconvenience was having to return the keys to the Margaretville Hotel since we had to use the keys to lock the deadbolted doors as we left instead of leaving the...
Read moreThe Bates Motel - an appellation that both I and another member of the wedding party independently arrived at, as we found at dinner last night. Apparently this building experienced a flood, something known to locals, but which I had already figured out due to the uneven floors (have almost tripped on them multiple times, as they ripple up and down underneath the carpeting) and the slightly musty smell. One tin cup in the kitchen, which means that I cannot microwave water in it for my own purposes, and that it's a good thing that I'm traveling solo - ironically, plenty of glasses. Sugary things left in the room as "breakfast," nothing I would ever eat. No menus for local takeout in the room, so I was left to my own devices to explore, and fortunately there's a grocery store around the corner so I was able to buy foods that are safe for me. One washcloth, but many towels- some of my family who are staying in another room have no bath towels at all! No instructions as to how to lock doors when leaving, had to figure that out myself. Difficult to understand which suite is which, which led to my door being banged on ferociously the first night by people trying to check into the room next door to mine; there is no light in the entryway, so be sure that the flashlight on your phone works, because otherwise coming in at night would be a real adventure, and not a fun one. The entryway has flaking paint on concrete. No hangers, just hooks high on the walls that were difficult for this short person to get things up on-- and I am here for a wedding, and so have things that...
Read moreWe arrived late At 12:38 am on Saturday morning July fourth weekend 2020. Before our trip and arrival Becky the manager was very responsive. We tried reaching her to express concern about the noise from above unit ( we were in #3) that went on all night until morning. We got no response still 3 days later. We called all available numbers again on Saturday evening and Sunday morning due to the same noise issues all night long on Saturday. Again with no response. Although breakfast is listed as included we were left 1- dozen eggs without any spatula or utensils. The air conditioner only worked in 1- bedroom . Although the place was somewhat clean the windows did not look like they have been cleaned in years. There was no regular television just Netflix and no way to contact anyone that would respond to our concerns. We shopped in town and expressed our concerns to the local shop owners who replied I cannot believe you stayed there. They rent all their units to drug addicts that are up all night. Which explains why Becky never responded once we were in the room. I truly believe that this establishment is writing their own reviews. I would not recommend Suites on Main unless they cleaned their act up you would be better...
