Best B&B experience that my wife and I have EVER had! Melinda & David were fantastic hosts, and could really read the moods of their guests, knowing when to make conversation or keep it business like. What initially caught our eye about the B&B was the Scottish themed home & rooms, after we had just visited Scotland in the past year. Upon arrival, we were surprised at how much more appealing the place was in person than in the photos. (So often the photos are doctored, taken only from flattering angles, or look totally different as the room has been recently "redecorated".) The rooms are very clean, and almost completely free of all of the knick-knacks that many B&B's place everywhere to give it a "feel", while keeping their theme of "Scottish Highlands" simplicity present. (Sometimes there is so much stuff that you have no place to put your own stuff, or are concerned about breakage.) We stayed for a week, during the Traverse City Cherry Fest, and it was the perfect base camp to work out of. They provide a private off-road parking space for each room, which during the festival is a real advantage, as parking (even on side-streets) is at a premium. While we were there, TC experienced a heat wave, with every day into the 90's and a few approaching 100 degrees, but even though the place is over 100 years old, and our room was upstairs, the air conditioning kept if quite chilly. They even have a Cherry Orchard of their own! (Okay, it was one TINY tree, with three cherries, but it is a start. See pic.) The B&B is located a short walk from both downtown TC and the waterfront, and right at the end of the street is the start of the TART hiking / biking trail that leads to Suttons Bay on the Leelanau peninsula (wine country) about 17 miles away thru beautiful countryside once you are outside of TC. Melinda and David were very pleasant people, and full of local knowledge. David (a real foodie) gave us great leads on hard to find restaurant gems both in and outside of the city, including an English style Inn with a fantastic kitchen that served authentic English & Scottish items. Lastly, the breakfasts were THE BEST that I have ever had at a B&B, with fresh fruits, homemade & local baked items, and egg & meat dishes that varied every day that we were there. We...
Read moreI recently stayed two nights at the Aberdeen Stone Cottage and I must say that I had an amazing time. Located in a lovely neighborhood, Aberdeen Stone Cottage is close to the water and a nice twenty minute walk to all of the great shops and restaurants that TC has to offer.||||I stayed in the Celtic Garden room which was perfect. I loved the bed, shower, and even the skeleton key for the door. After a hectic photo workshop in the UP, I was really worn out and sleep deprived when I arrived. But after two nights in the Celtic Garden room I was refreshed and happily caught up on my sleep. But the best part of the Celtic Garden room is the garden itself. It's peaceful and quiet and a great place to sit for an afternoon glass of wine. ||||David and Melinda were the perfect hosts. I'm Vegan and I was concerned about breakfast but the two breakfast I had were extremely good! The delicious food just kept coming. The scones were really good and the veggie dishes I had each morning were outstanding.||||I had never met David or Melinda prior to my visit but when I had to leave after my two nights I felt like I was saying goodbye to a couple of really close friends. I can't wait until...
Read moreJust returned from our stay in Traverse City at Aberdeen Stone Cottage. We greatly enjoyed the hospitality of Melinda and David. Our room on the first floor was just right. The bed was quite comfortable and we had a nice ensuite bath. David cooked a gourmet breakfast each morning and we enjoyed sharing the experiences of other guests around the breakfast table. They have three guestrooms. ||||Aberdeen Cottage is located on a shaded treelined street in Slabtown just a few blocks from the lake and quite convenient to downtown, numerous restaurants and brewpubs as well as the shops and restaurants at the restored former State Hospital.|||| I really enjoy the bed and breakfast experience when done well and it was at Aberdeen Cottage. So much more personal than staying at a hotel. It was our first trip to Michigan and we found Traverse City to be a great central spot to journey out and explore the region. I hope to travel there again and would gladly stay at Aberdeen Cottage....
