Motel Safari Route 66 Tucumcari, New Mexico
While we were on one of our road trips, the first Route 66 motel we stayed at in Tucumcari was Motel Safari in Tucumcari, New Mexico.
When we first arrived, we were greeted by Larry Smith and his beautiful pup Sam. Larry gave us a great room with garage parking.
The Motel Safari is a beautiful Mid Century Motel with it bright colors and neon sign. I have often wondered what the rooms were like during our past visits.
The room was quite spacious and had several great amenities such as a Keurig Coffee Maker and Fiber Optic Wifi. The room was beautifully decorated with mid century modern decor. The bed and pillows are comfortable, and so were the chair. During our stay, the gentleman next door to us kindly invited us into his suite to take a look. The suite has a kitchen, living room, and separate bedroom. The suite was decorated in a Western motif. Our room was great and easy to move around.
The room was very clean upon check-in. The staff were great and friendly. We loved talking with them. We talked with the gal who was in charge of housekeeping, and she was just so fun to speak with. I only wished I could remember her name.
The motel also has a guest service area, which includes an ice machine and guest laundry. Next to the guest service area and under the Motel Safari sign is a great outdoor area for the guest. There is plenty of seating for the guest to relax.
This beautiful property, a "Mid Century Marvel," is a great place to stay in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Larry, his pup Sam, and the staff are all wonderful, and we had a great stay at the Motel. With excellent guest service, clean spacious rooms, and a beautiful property, there is no wonder why people love to stay at...
Read moreFrom Rich’s Genuine Greeting, willingness to show a room (ready and available, even though it was the last room), share in his adoration of the area and knowledge of the Best Eats, to checking in with me the next morning, Motel Safari’s details to excellence is only as good as the Ownerships Pride. ||There are rooms for all, we chose a King. I had a nice soak in the tub to the sound of “Route 66 Radio” playing in the background on the antique radio. The soaps/shampoo/lotion were of good quality.||The newish towels and sheets are soft, everything very clean, pillows and mattress pad soft and a good sleep was easy. We didn’t hear any roads or lot sounds, the A/C was effective (remote controlled).||The Kurig was ready to use, cream and other flavors freely available in the Gift Shop/Office. I made coffee and walked the short distance to the Historic Bakery across the street for some Gluten Free Baked Goods (delish), again recommended by Rich.||The very few things that may have made this a 5-Star Review would be: Darkening Blinds (bright lights for safety outside the door for obvious reasons); a small gap under the door; the carpet albeit indoor/outdoor is worn around the corners, lvp flooring might be better; the bathroom counter leg is rusting and leaving a stain. No offerings for food, there could be cookies/muffins/small offerings, even for a fee.||Overall, we were grateful for a place to lay our head in such a sweet motel. We will encourage others to...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a place that feels like it was plucked straight out of a retro 1960s sitcom, look no further! We stopped here on our way to the Balloon Fiesta and met Larry, the owner, and his furry co-pilot in the lobby. Seriously, if there were a reality show about motels, this would be the star!||||The standard king guestroom? More like the "I-just-time-traveled-to-the-1960s-and-I-love-it" suite! My Hyundai Santa Fe even squeezed into the retro carport which was awesome. The room itself was decked out with mid-century modern flair and a radio playing 1960s tunes. I half expected to see Dick Van Dyke popping out of the closet to join the dance party.||||The bed was so comfortable I contemplated a career as a professional napper. And the color scheme? It was like a throwback to a groovy art class—very period-accurate and so tasteful.||||Oh, and I couldn’t resist snagging some retro soda and souvenirs from the lobby. Because nothing says “I’m on vacation” like drinking a sugary blast from the past while staring at a wall of nostalgia!||||Two thumbs up? Nah, let’s go with two full-on jazz hands! If you’re ever in the area, make sure to stop by—just don’t blame me if you find yourself...
