Cons:
Breakfast was completely inedible, and I generally am not picky about food in the morning. Potatoes were hard inside and had a metallic taste. Eggs were liquid and tasted of moldy water. Sausage also tasted metallic and rubbery.
The blow-dryers are attached to the bathroom walls, which is a challenge for me as I have a bad hip and need to sit down to blow dry my hair. Do you really have an issue with that many people stealing them? Come on.
Almost no lighting inside the room aside from 2 very small lamps with miniscule warm-toned light. It is hard to work in the room. Which many of us affiliated with the University need to be able to work. There is technically a little desk on the wall, which is actually cute, but zero light sources anywhere near the desk. Strange. Desks = lamp. Ceilings also should = lights.
No microwaves or refrigerators, as many reviews noted, but apparently a few select rooms do have them. I travel with mandatory medications that must be refrigerated. I asked the front desk (who appeared to be a student) if my room had a fridge, because I needed to keep my medications cold. To which she said "I have no idea if you room has a fridge," shrugged, and then stared blankly at me. Customer service skills are sorely lacking.
The overall hotel has a general musty smell and very old feel (not in a cute way either). It does not appear safe to be breathing the air here. They should tear down and build something else. They could easy afford to pay for a new building with how many people need to stay here by the campus.
The pros:
Location, location, location! So convenient to walk to campus, especially the engineering side.
The bed was insanely comfortable. Like, melt in a cloud comfortable, with very fresh linens that felt so nice.
I loved that they had a deep soaking bathtub. This is helpful for my personal disability, but also just fun to take a bath when out of town and want to relax after a long bath.
The wood furniture in all of the rooms is very nice and has a high-quality feel to it. Exudes class. If Hilton does ever decide to replace this old building, definitely re-use...
Read moreI was here to visit. I had reservations for a thursday night. when I got there the night manager don accused me of lying about my reservations. He was rude to us the whole time. I gave him my id, he lost it and accused me of stealing it from him, threathened to not give us a room. Continued to be rude to me. At that point I was tired from driving 4 hours. I just want to unpack and freshen up. So I kept my mouth shut. Finally got my room after having my girlfriend and I stand there with all our luggage for almost 30 minutes. my room was quoted at $129 but when I got there, since I dont have a reservation I was forced to take one for $149. I am angry but like I said, I am tired. I said I will take whatever room and I will call corporate to deal with it in the morning. Don was so rude to us that I coupd not wait. I called as soon as I was in the room. after unpacking, I was hungry. I went to the lobby to buy some food. I found a digornos pizza in their fridge. I read the box. The cooking instructions is in the box. I asked Don if I could cook that in the microwave provided in my room. He said probably. so I said can you open it and make sure? I dont want to buy it if I cant cook it. He snapped at me. At one point he got around the counter with his arms in the air trying to fight me. Threathen to call the cops. I was very upset. my experience here has just been horrible. Corporate ended up refunding me for one night. What I want is a formal apology from Don for his behavior. I dont understand how a named hotel can hire someone like that as a manager. Very unprofessional and when he found out corporate was notified, I noticed he got even more hostile towards me. The morning staff was different. The morning staff was friendly and very helpful. Unfortunately nothing can make up for Don's actions besides his unemployment or a formal apology. I hope this review helped others to steer clear of this place.
ps. I purposely did not bring a toothbrush because I have never been to a hotel that did not provide toothbrush,...
Read moreI cannot say enough GOOD about this place. The rooms were very clean & extremely comfortable. We were grateful for that. The prices were excellent. But the greatest thing about the Hampton Inn in Urbana, Illinois was also their greatest asset: their employees. Upon our arrival, there was an issue with our reservation. This is where we met Rose. I was extremely tired having driven all night & most of the day. I was very rude, for which I'm so sorry, but she took it in stride & set out to fix the problem, which she did QUICKLY & THOROUGHLY. I apologized prophetically & she was so quick to shrug it off & forgive & continue to help us. She is an amazing women. Thank you, Rose, for everything. You are awesome. When Rose left, Debra came in. She was a very pleasant, friendly, helpful young lady, also. Another wonderful woman. I arrived home approximately 1:30 a.m. this morning. Was so tired, left everything in the car to be unloaded later. Approximately 11 a.m., I left to go to the store. I realized I couldn't find my purse. I had put it in the dresser in my room at the hotel & forgot it. I immediately called the hotel * spoke with a young lady who identified herself as Rich. I explained the situation & she said she would check & call me back. Within a few minutes, she called & said she had it. I gave her my credit card info & she said Fed- Ex is closed but would pick it up Monday. She is sending it overnight. Another outstanding woman. I dealt with 3 women at the Hampton Inn. Each one made a definite positive impression on me for their own kindnesses. You should be proud to know of the honest, caring, personable & fun employees you've chosen. You chose well. They are all A TRUE STATEMENT OF YOUR COMPANY. THEY REPRESENT YOUR COMPANY IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY. BE PROUD OF EACH OF THEM. THE EARNED IT. THANK YOU, GIRLS. WHEN I GET BACK TO ILLINOIS, I'LL BE STAYING THERE, FOR...
