Basically, this place is great, and these guys (Dan & CJ) are really good at what they do. My interactions with them were informative, and I could tell they care (a lot) about doing a good job.
They were the only place in town (and I did call around, including uBreakiFix/Asurion and FYXIT (and another place that wouldn't even pick up the phone)) that would take a look at fixing the cracked screen on my Moto G7, which was otherwise still completely functional. CJ gave it his best shot, but the new screen cracked only seconds after finishing the repair (literally in his hands; first time it ever happened, he told me) due to my phone having a slight bend in the frame (an issue I knew about beforehand but didn't consider the implications of). I was advised that another attempt would lack a warranty (because of the bend and whatever stresses it was causing) and that it'd make more sense to just get a replacement (which would run about the same cost as this repair anyway). I was also offered data recovery services, but I didn't need it as I had already migrated to a new phone. Still appreciated though.
Despite the lack of success in the repair, I'm still almost fully satisfied with my experience. The only issue for me is that my phone was completely non-functional when I got it back. The original cracked screen had been put back on (which is totally fair; they probably needed the new one that cracked to try to recover the cost from their supplier), but it was in worse condition and the phone was (and is) completely inaccessible. I can't even connect to it with Android Device Manager to erase it for recycling.
Again, these guys are really good. My old phone is/was an abomination that happened to land in their laps. They did the best they could in this case. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
Update: CJ followed up with me offering to manually erase the phone, and I took them up on it. The phone is erased and recycled. Proper closure to this story! It wasn't the "perfect" outcome, but it was perfect...
Read moreI went here because I was having issues with my phoneâit would not start up properly (crashing and restarting at the lock screen) and make a loud vibration when flipping the ringer on/off. At this time, my phone had been very low on storage and I believe this issue only occurred because the device completely ran out of storage.
I chose Campus Mobile Solutions because of its close proximity and I was informed that the Illini Tech Zone only works on Apple products limited to iPads and Macs. When I arrived, I explained what was going on to the man with a red beard.
He was nice to speak to, however, after explaining my issue of the screen not registering touch, he quickly came to the assumption that the screen needed to be replaced; offering me a $180 screen replacement. By Appleâs official trade-in option, my phoneâs value is well below that.
Once the phone went through the cycle of automatically shutting off and restarting, he switched his assumption to a hardware issue inside the phone and presented a different option of âdoing something stupid for $30.â I kid you not he said that to my face.
I felt extremely pressured into getting what seemed to be completely unnecessary and unplanned work done on my phone for two very different prices. That is rude and unprofessional! I politely declined.
After running my phone through iTunes on my laptop, and manually restarting the device, I got it to work and made room for storage and since have not had any issues.
If the money doesnât concern you then please listen to them carefully. Doing something stupid with an expensive device is much scarier than getting it fixed at Apple. Please take caution...
Read moreThe Dell Alienware laptop that I use is necessary for me to do my job. Recently the CPU fan failed. So not only was I unable to make my $$, but I was going to fall behind and my work would suffer too!! I was told to use "Simplified Computers" to get it fixed, and after a few phone calls with them and agreeing that we would pay emergency technician fees, I was told that I could bring it in for them to get the part numbers off the fan. I could then have it back to limp along until the part came in. I wondered why they had to take it apart to see what fan was in a very common, high dollar computer, but if I knew all about them I would just fix it myself, so I brought it in to "Simplified Computers" in Champaign. It's a 1 hr round trip for me to get there. When I did, the person at the counter had no idea what I was thinking, but they were going to need it for 2 weeks before they could get the part ordered, and I would not be able to use it during that time.... That place is a joke!!! As I was LEAVING SIMPLIFIED COMPUTERS FOREVER, I got a call back from CJ at Campus Mobile Solutions. CJ told me to bring it in, and in 15 minutes, he could get the correct part/s ordered and I'd be able to leave WITH my laptop!! So I did, and he wasn't joking. That was a Tuesday around lunch. Friday he called me around 1 and said the part came in and if I had it there in 2 hrs he could fix it and I'd have it back that day!!!!! CJ and the employees at campus mobile solutions know what they're talking about and they do what they say they're going to do!! If you need anything for your laptop, desktop, mobile device, any electronic devices..... CALL CAMPUS MOBILE...
