Edited to add: apparently the host doesn't remember I was there, maybe that's partly why there was no real breakfast lol. Worsed B&B ever!! I travel a lot for work and prefer B&B 's in part so I don't have to find a place to eat a hot breakfast in the morning. This B&B only a couple pieces of fruit, and some cheese and pre-packaged yogurt. Most cheap hotels have at least powdered eggs and sausage. The bed was in bad need of replacement. It kept trying to swallow me and fold me in half. I ended up laying pillows on the floor and making something work. I arrived kinda late and wanted to get settled in, but the inn keeper seemed insistent on giving me a tour of other rooms while I lugged my stuff around. There is also no designated parking area. Just street parking, not terrible, but not ideal. My room also had no shower. It really sucked getting done with a sweaty day at work and trying to wash my body and hair in a tub. When trying to sit and eat breakfast, the first chair's cushion was super deep (6inches or so) and completely collapsed under me (im 120lbs by the way). I tried a chair with a wicker type bottom and it started making cracking noises and was very wobbly, so I ended up switching to another chair where the cushion collapsed, and it had a hard board under my knees so my but was lower than my knees and it was pinching off my blood flow to my feet, and it made my back hurt to sit in such an awkward position. I did go to a diner for all the other mornings. The house looks pretty nice at first but the stairs and floors creak ALOT! I grew up in a house built in the 1800's so creaky doesnt usually bother me, but this is super loud, and you will be woken up whenever anyone walks around. I also enjoy antique decor, especially in older houses, however every surface is PACKED with mismatched antiques. It felt like a hoarder decorated the place. Shelves were added to doors to pack more antiques on them. It's generally clean, but felt very small bc of all the things. Half the long breakfast dining table was filled with plants as well. When I travel I tend to set the room up how I like it, then I prefer to have it left that way until I leave. I made that request, but when I got back the room had been sprayed with some kind of perfume and cleaning chemicals to such a great extent that my eyes were burning. I immediately opened the windows to air it out, and it was cool outside so I ended up running the in room space heater to stay warm on the floor, while trying to manage the air quality. Stay at the old oak inn, not here if you want a nice place to sleep, and a B&B that actually serves breakfast. Or the Americ inn for a much more affordable and comfortable stay with a better breakfast...
Read moreThe location was excellent for us, coming in town to check on our aging parents for Christmas. This put us less than a mile away from them.
We received a call from the attendant from the Boutique Bed and Breakfast two hours before arriving on our sixteen hour drive from an audibly sick individual calling to ensure our arrival time. She said she was going to social distance herself. I thought we would be greeted from a distance at some point. It becomes a little odd after two days of being in someone’s house, you never met and you hear them coughing and stirring around, smell their food cooking. Definitely different.
We unfortunately couldn’t make other plans with such short notice at Christmas nor was it taken into consideration. We struggled with this being around sickness and my elderly parents that can’t afford to get sick in their condition.
The room was as listed, Victorian and full of nick-knacks and tons of furniture. The bed was very comfortable. The room offered large windows with minimal blinds that had a consistent glow through the windows all night. If you like a dark room, bring an eye mask. The bathroom was very tiny with no room to put personal belongings. The front door is not locked at night so anyone can walk in off the street. Parking is on the road with limited lighting.
At night we could occasionally hear a dog upstairs barking and yelping and after showering in the morning we had the opportunity to dry off with one of the towels that the dog dried off with. We contacted the attendant by phone and she said we could go upstairs and get another towel to remedy the situation.
Breakfast consisted of muffins from the local store and you get to make the coffee. Fruit was left out and the refrigerator had expired yogurt, water, creamers and cheese sticks.
Our last night we came into some one moving in for extended stay with her dog. I have stayed in several Bed and Breakfasts over the years and I don’t ever remember having mixed clientele like this. Maybe this is the off season?
We nicely asked/ suggested that we just make our bed to attempt to social distance ourselves as much as possible and she take it easy being she was very sick. Unfortunately I woke up from our last (4th) night with the same cough as the attendee.
Everyone gets sick, it would have been nice in this situation to have received a call ASAP to make decisions to prevent this. Cancellation without penalty or other offers were not presented.
Update 12/30/2023- currently on steroids, and antibiotics! Very frustrating and this was totally preventable! New Years Eve plans…CANCELLED! She said, “you don’t want what I have”....
Read moreOverall somewhat disappointing. We had hoped to stay in the Boyle house but were told it would not be open until June so we were given the Tubb room in the Eckhart house. The room was very tiny with no room to put personal belongings. We had to rely on the air conditioner since the windows didn't have screens and so couldn't be opened. The air conditioner was less than arm's length from the bed which meant we had cold air blowing directly at our heads - uncomfortable and noisy. Breakfast was ordinary: a muffin (only one flavor, no choice of pastries), string cheese, yogurt, fruit; no hot items. Definitely sub-par compared to other b&b's we've visited. The parlor and dining area were very cluttered so finding a place to sit and eat was awkward. Great Victorian house,...
