My family of three (including our seven year old) had an incredible stay at The Fortney. We were warmly greeted and checked on multiple times throughout the stay. We purposely chose Room 205 on a night that a Live in Viroqua concert was happening. The room features a bumpout overlooking Court Street. You could sit and enjoy the concert from the comfort of your room in the cozy sitting area. Highly, highly recommend booking this room if your stay coincides with one of these summer concerts. We were also treated to drinks in the Fortney lounge and coffee from Noble Rind as guests. We loved the Lusa Organics (local to Viroqua) toiletries and appreciated the artwork in the room being created by local artists. Accessing the room and building was by code, so no need to worry about losing a key. The carpet was super lush and thick, very easy on the feet and the beds and pillows were of high quality and very comfortable. The heated floors in the bathroom were so nice after taking a shower! There was also a very informative guide provided online that outlined everything for the stay, including amenities and things to do in the area. It is clear that The Fortney not only wants you to have a wonderful stay, but are also pillars in supporting the local community. With being right on Main Street, you will have no shortage of things to do and see, but The Fortney does provide a nice map and listing of upcoming events for you to enjoy (in addition to the info they provided in your stay's online guide). The extra amenities such as the community room, gear room, and water bottle filling stations in the hallways set this place apart from other hotels! Having access to Noble Rind, The Driftless Cafe, and the Fortney Lounge all right within the hotel itself is incredible! Even though we live just 10 minutes from the hotel, it was an experience unlike others that we've had, so we will definitely stay again and this will be the place we recommend to anyone...
Read moreWe absolutely loved our stay at the Fortney! My three kiddos, husband, and I stayed in the Queen suite and it was just perfect. The four bunk beds worked well for the kids, and having another bedroom was so nice! The bathrooms are gorgeous (the products smell amazing, too), and all of the staff is really friendly and helpful. One of our favorite parts of the Fortney was the community kitchen/lounge! There’s a fridge for everyone’s use, delicious coffee all day long, amazing muffins from Noble Rind, a TV, huge table for a group meal/hang, and lots of games. It was the best place for us to gather!
We also, of course, enjoyed the Lounge both nights we were here. First off, the ambience is literally perfect. It’s intimate and warm but also modern and bright, and all of the staff is welcoming and friendly and super fun. We loved getting to know Jenna and Samara. The drinks are delicious, with tons of options for wine, beer, and cocktails, AND cocktails and NA beers! It was really nice to have options for everyone. The food is also pretty special. You can have deluxe, delicious sandwiches, salads, and apps from The Noble Rind (right next door) and pizzas from neighboring restaurant Driftless Cafe. There’s no kids menu, but between the pizzas and the sandwiches, we found that there was something that worked for all of the various palates in our group :)
Location! The Fortney is right in the heart of downtown Viroqua and it’s walkable to everything you might need, including the coop!
We had such an awesome time at the Fortney that we are already planning our next visit. Thanks to all the folks who work to make this such a great experience for all of the guests. It’s...
Read moreBeautifully restored vintage hotel in downtown Viroqua. |Our room, “King Single” was very spacious, very clean and relaxing. ||Check-in felt wonky as the front desk area has yet to be updated. Keyless-pad entry into the hotel and the rooms, which I appreciate. The cards always have issues it seems. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom spacious well appointed, and featured a heated floor with a walk in shower.|Soap/Shampoo/Conditioner dispensers with great quality product.|| The hotel has a European feel, features a common kitchen with a massive marble topped island with plenty of seating. The “Kitchen” offers a huge refrigeration unit with a tray for each room, and a few drawers for larger items. A Wolf Induction top, and drawer microwave round out the room, and are great touches, should you wish to reheat items or cook your own meal. ||The Fortney offers massive fresh muffins from a local artisan bakery and locally roasted coffee each morning. Moreover, there is a tea pot and a selection of teas. I prefer the muffins to the usual chain breakfasts, which feature barely palatable food products heavy with fat and sugars. ||The Fortney has a beautiful bar and lounge area on the first floor. Food is available from the adjacent businesses “The Noble Rind” and nearby Driftless Cafe. ||I had just driven 1400 miles staying in several chain hotels prior to staying at the Fortney. What an Oasis.||Is it perfect? No, but I’d stay again...
