Magpies changed my life. Only in Viroqua you would find some of the most delicious ice cream on Earth (I’ve had PLENTY ice cream / gelato) made with organic local ingredients, for such a deliciously fair price. Magpie Gelato is a reflection of what the world could one day be: a utopia of loving communities & good food that is priced out of love and not greed.
During my time in Viroqua, I once realized I had eaten ice cream 9 times in one week. It goes without saying about 7 of those times it was Magpie’s gelato.
The ambience is always lovely, sometimes with live music. My favorite is when the local folk band practices there. Though Magpies would benefit from some acoustic treatment for a more pleasant soundscape.
I am now out of Viroqua and will miss Magpie dearly. Deeply hope it will still be alive and thriving every time I come visit.

Awesome to have this place in Viroqua. Got a delicious cappuccino and a pint of the bacio (chocolate hazelnut.) So smooth and creamy :)
Also love there mushroom, goat cheese crepe.
My only qualm is that it's not the best place to try and get work done as there are toys for children to play with resulting in it being very loud at times. Perhaps certain toys are not the best to have in a cafe.
I honestly love that it's a family place, it just is distracting for someone trying to get work done. I would say if you are someone looking for a quiet cafe vibe, go during the week vs the weekend, that’s when I have noticed it being the loudest. No big deal, just...
