I am blown away with the amount of decent reviews on this hotel staff. My experience was nothing short of comical and rage inducing. When I made my reservation over the phone, the staff had the most difficult time entering my information correctly and keeping track of the rooms I was requesting. They were friendly at this time, but made me nervous because they didn't make me feel confident they were booking correctly. Fast forward to the day I'm going to check in - I receive a voicemail saying my room reservation has been cancelled because my credit card is being declined. When I promptly returned their phone call and asked what card they had on file - it was not my card number. Not even close. So they were trying to charge someone else's card number for my room. After having to repeat my card information over the phone 5 times because I had to keep correcting her on the right numbers, she finally got the card to go through and said we were all set. At 10pm that night, we arrived to check in to our room . The front desk associate was unwelcoming and asked how she could help us. When I told her we were checking in and gave her my name, she said "Oh, your reservation was cancelled because your card was declined.". When I explained to her that I had gotten this taken care of that morning, she said "We don't have any rooms and your card was declined." I pulled up my bank account to show her the Quality Inn charge on my account and she just started calling her manager on her cell phone. Once she got in touch with her manager I heard on the other end "Well there's nothing I can do about it!" with such an attitude. I asked for a refund and was told that only her manager could give me a refund and I had to call back on Tuesday when she was back in town. What kind of hotel has only 1 manager that can authorize things like that, and then goes out of town? The closest hotel with availability that night was over an hour away, so we had to drive to RICHMOND for the night and come back early the next day.
This staff is a joke and I cannot believe a chain hotel has allowed them to run this place this way.
All this to say, it was a blessing in disguise. That hotel smelled like cigarette smoke and I can only imagine what the rooms were like. We NEVER received a single apology from any of the staff members and they acted like we were the ones inconveniencing THEM.
Drive the extra 5 minutes to Tappahannock and stay at the Holiday Inn Express - we were able to secure rooms there the following night and it was one of the best hotel experiences I've had in years. So clean, friendly staff, all the amenities and VERY comfortable beds. Wish we had known to just book there in the...
Read moreHORRIBLE!!!! Stay away!! We were told the hotel was under renovation, but this is inexcusable. We went to check in only to see notes on the front door saying to use the side door. We were led into a junk filled back room and stood there while our credit card was run. We were told our room was upstairs, but we had to go around outside to the back of the building because we couldn't walk through the lobby--due to them re-tiling the floor. We were also told no breakfast and no work out room due to reno. Ok we drag our suitcases around the building, thru the snow and construction debris, only to find all doors LOCKED. Went back to the side door, and were told, well you can take the elevator. The elevator was a HAZARD! The inspection certificate expired in Oct. 2014 and the elevator JUMPED and made grinding noises. We made it to our room, only to see bare wires hanging from the ceiling and the smoke detector sitting on the dresser. We called the front desk and she told me they were "aware of the elevator problem". We were given another room. We were unable to hang up our clothes because they re-did the closet area but did not provide usable hangers! The bathroom sink was loose on the wall, no towel racks in the bathroom, so the towels were sitting on the dresser. All this plus the hallway was filthy, no ice machine, blocked stairwells, no vending machine. The next day, after returning to our room, the smell was overwhelming, cleaning products of some type. There was a long hose blocking half the hallway. We decided to check out, couldn't deal with it any longer. It was 3pm. When we called we were told we could only get a 10% refund. At this point, I would deal with it just to be out of there. We packed up, went downstairs and were told, sorry, the owner said I can't refund you ANYTHING because of the time. Are you KIDDING ME??? All that we put up with and you won't even give us 10% back???? Well guess what? Corportate is getting a call, and I have already sent the elevator expired inspection certificate AND a video of the horrible elevator ride to the county. We will be traveling to the Northern Neck several more times and will NEVER EVER stay at this hotel again, and honestly, depending on what corporate says, may never stay with this...
Read moreThere are multiple reasons for my rating of "poor." This is my 3rd time staying at this hotel. The first time was fine. The 2nd time ok. The 3rd time - I won't be back. (1) Your website clearly says "Hot" breakfast. When I checked in, I was told that it is a cold breakfast. (2) Your elevator is broken and has been broken for months. (When I was here in Oct, it was broken and now its February !!) Problem is - you didn't indicate that on your website. I can't cancel and get a refund. And all of your 1st floor rooms are booked. I sprained my knee last year and I have a great deal of difficulty climbing stairs. I am also traveling for work on a limited budget - hence my choice of the Quality Inn. And I have both work and personal items that I need to bring into the room. Normally, I could load them up on a cart and get into the room in 5 minutes or so. In this case, was told there are NO 1st floor rooms available. Due to my knee, I need to hold the rail with one hand and slowly climb the stairs while carrying my personal and work items. So it took me almost 1/2 an hour to go up and down the stairs and out to my car to bring my stuff to my room. By the time I finished this, my knee was throbbing in pain. And I'm going to have to do the same thing in the morning. Ultimately making my knee miserable and wasting almost an hour of my time. (3) The person at the front desk wasn't even apologetic about the situation. No smile, no apology, no offer of help in any way. Quite frankly, I realize that there isn't much that she could actually do, but she could have been friendlier about it. (4) Although my room in general is comfortable, it is clear that whoever inhabited the room previously spilled a few drops of food on the bed and it wasn't cleaned or washed. It's not a stain, it's a couple of drops of food. My sock stuck to the floor where a few drops of something were spilled over near the trash can and the top (head) of the bed curves inward - as well as the top of the bed is lower than the bottom of the bed (the foot of the bed is higher than the head of the bead.) I travel through Warsaw, Kilmarnock, etc. frequently and had thought this would be my place to stay, but after today, that won't...
