Let me preface with I am a Type A, double Virgo professional event planner so the bar was high and GW knocked it out of the park. I came for the beauty of the venue but stayed for the service. We loved being able to have everything in the same place, from ceremony to cocktail hour to reception to after party. We got so many compliments on how beautiful, unique and cool our venue was. As a Pittsburgh couple, we got a lot of questions on why we would have our wedding in Washington. As soon as our guests stepped foot inside the George Washington, they understood why we chose here. You will be hard pressed to find another venue like George Washington, who gives you full and total access to the entire hotel starting as early as Thursday of wedding weekend where there are also no other hotel guests aside from those at your wedding able to book the hotel on that weekend. I cannot stress enough how much cooler that made our entire experience. Our wedding day was stress free only having to walk within the venue from event to event. The food was AMAZING! Every guest I talked to said it was delicious and hot. It was great at our tasting, and the quality stayed the same for the wedding. The Kouzina cafe attached the hotel was also a delicious and convenient option for both breakfast and lunch. The staff, especially Erica, was top notch. There was no request too big or small that George Washington wasn’t able to accommodate. Erica had a lot of great suggestions and ideas that helped make the entire weekend run smoothly. We booked our May 2024 wedding way back in June of 2022 and the staff was prompt and responsive throughout the whole process, even when our day was still so far away. I sent back a full page of edits/additions before we signed our contract, and GW patiently worked with me to ensure I felt comfortable with everything. As we got closer, we had several changes with our guests and their rooms at the hotel, and Brooke made sure the arrangements were swiftly updated, even when I reached out several times a day. A minor issue we did have was with the some of the other daytime front desk staff as our guests were calling in to reserve their rooms. Some reservations got lost and our guests didn’t receive confirmation emails, which was minor in the grand scheme of things as those rooms were already reserved solely for our guests anyway. From the event side, everything was perfect. If you are even thinking about booking George Washington as your wedding venue, you need to do it. GW was the perfect backdrop to my fairytale weekend and I can not imagine this wedding could have been done better...
Read moreMy son was scheduled to have his wedding reception at the George Washington on 5/30/20, but COVID stopped us! Unfortunately, we had to cancel the event. So, while I cannot give a rating on the reception itself, I would like to say that their staff was wonderful throughout this mess! Tim McLung, the General Manager, was extremely professional and really cared about the plight of all the guests whose events had to be postponed or cancelled. I spoke with Tim several times during the shut down regarding our event and accommodations, just waiting to see what our outcome would be with the pandemic. He was so friendly, caring and very very positive. I know that during the shut down, Tim was there every day making sure the hotel was operating properly and he personally did touch-ups or repairs that needed done because the staff wasn't there. TIM WENT OVER AND ABOVE HIS DUTIES AS GENERAL MANAGER. He was even willing to go outside the hotel and get something for a guest if they needed it. Who does that??
My son and his bride still wanted to stay at the GW on their wedding night because they loved the hotel. The hotel is very historical and has so many stories to tell! Built in 1923, many celebrities stayed there (JFK and The Beatles, to name a few) and Tim will give you a personal tour and show you all the interesting things in the hotel that only the GW has! Needless to say, Tim made my son and his bride's wedding night very special in spite of the pandemic!
I am forever grateful for Tim being so kind and enthusiastic to me, my husband, my son and his bride. With all the problems in our world right now, it is great to see someone so enthusiastic about his job and so positive! Tim truly loves people, and is very comfortable talking and listening to them, he cares! Every visit at the GW in planning the wedding was easy and pleasant because of Tim. He answered all questions, and if he didn't know, he would promptly find out and follow up. He is a problem solver.
There is no question that had our reception happened like it should have, Tim would have been there the whole time making sure my son's wedding was a special one!
If you want a quiet, nostalgic hotel in a small town, the George Washington is the place. So many original features make it beautiful! Be sure to...
Read moreWas recently involved with this establishment for my best friends wedding, to say it was a severe disappointment would be a great understatement! The bride had been working with the staff and wedding coordinator for well over a year, yet nothing was done correctly. The staff was incompetent, rude, and actually told the bride that she ruined her own wedding for being upset with everything being wrong. The bride's day is suppose to be hers, the one day when EVERYTHING REVOLVES AROUND HER! A wedding coordinator is paid to coordinate, deal with the issues, speak to the vendors...yet...the vendors were contacting the bride, during her time while getting ready, ruining her time! What kind of establishment allows the wedding coordinator to scream at the bride, not once, but TWICE on her wedding day?!? In what kind of establishment does the owner walk around to ask random guests about their service yet purposely avoids the bride and groom and if they are satisfied?!? Alcohol was served to kids tables...salads were left on tables for over an hour, resulting in the bar being closed for an additional hour during dinner, which had already been paid to be open...the list goes on and on. Wedding Coordinator? Who is that? This person was non existent. The wedding started at 4, by 6 the bride was in tears and trying to leave highly embarrassed! With the "wedding coordinator" nowhere to be found!!! If it wasn't for the vendors, we would have had no idea what was going on moment to moment! When confronted the next day, the bride is told it's her fault, it's her bridal parties fault, too bad followed by excuse after excuse of complete and utter nonsense!!! Oh, not to mention, the event was overpaid for and no refund was given and still hasn't been nearly a week later! If I could give "0" stars I would! NO BRIDE SHOULD EVER BE MADE TO FEEL LIKE SHE WANTS TO VACATE HER OWN WEDDING! NO BRIDE SHOULD BE LEFT IN TEARS BECAUSE OF THE ABSOLUTE NEGLECT OF THE STAFF AT HER VENUE!!! I will NEVER recommend this establishment and I strongly encourage anyone looking to browse elsewhere if you want your special day to remain special and...
