Atmosphere- 5 stars- located in downtown Washington PA this Italian style restaurant is below street level. You enter the building by going down a set of steps. Reminds me of the entrance of the famous television show - Cheers. As you enter you see a full bar to your right and to your left a seating area as well as further ahead as you’re waiting to be seated. It is a cozy environment that feels like a local spot and is decorated nicely with old photo memories of the past. Love the rustic brick wall that was in our dining area. I don’t believe there are any windows since you’re in the lower level of the building however it doesn’t feel dark or uninviting. Everything was really clean and there was plenty of seating- both tables and booths or seating at the bar. I also noticed a back room which was probably used for private events or overflow seating. Service- 5 stars- our waitress was Bridgette and she was on the ball! We had a table that was a little rocky but she noticed it right away and fixed it. She gave us her advice when asked about what was good and she didn’t steer us wrong- I had one of the best sandwiches I had ever had. She was very attentive and made sure our drinks stayed full and that we had everything we needed. Super friendly. I hope this restaurant knows what a good employee they have. Food- 5 stars- we had been here before however it had been awhile and our last visit was a little disappointing but I accounted that for being rusty after reopening due to the COVID episode. This time was amazing!!! Everything was delicious. Starting with the Wedding soup- perfectly made with tender meatballs and a savory broth. I got the Roberta sandwich- which was made with tender slices of roast beef, cheese, Cole slaw, fresh fries and thousand island dressing all on Italian grilled bread- amazing!!! We also got Cheese Ravioli made with imported pasta and you could definitely tell the difference from the store boxed pasta. Sauce was very good and we got a side of Meatballs- very large Meatballs at that and they were awesome! Just can’t say enough about our experience here. If you look at my past reviews you will see that five stars reviews come far and few between so when I give a place five stars it must be very good!!

A unique establishment! I have been to the Union Grill a few different times, and every time it feels like I am in Massachusetts walking into the “Cheers” bar. I think it’s amazing that you go downstairs and into a cellar, per se to have your experience. The walls and floor accentuate that you are in a lower level and it gives you this feeling of uniqueness. In this visit, we sat in a booth of the bar area during lunch time. Our server was very friendly with a pleasant smile, but didn’t check in as much as we would have liked. We had to wait a bit for the bill. There were definitely a lot of people dining in so I can understand the lack of checking more, but just wish that she would have. The food was amazing! My husband opted for the Cheesesteak and I went with the Italian Hoagie. Raspberry Vinaigrette is my suggestion all the way on this. Their homemade potato chips are so thick, flavorful and filling. I would highly suggest a reservation at any time after 4pm. Even at lunch, they are hopping! Due to the crowd that this restaurant gets, it does tend to get loud with just simple conversation, so be prepared if you’re somebody who enjoys quiet. Would definitely return for the food. Great coffee, cocktail and desserts. Happy Hour food and cocktails. Takeout and Dine-in are available. Open for lunch and dinner. Good for kids with high chairs and kids menus. Paid street parking. Somewhat hard to find a spot sometimes so plan on possibly walking further. Atmosphere is casual, trendy, historic, cozy and romantic.. Wheelchair accessible seating, and restroom. Catering available.

I walked in, the bar was filled however the rest of the place was not. I waited 5 minutes before being acknowledged though the server who sat me made sure to finish her conversation with another server first. Which I note you can hear as they were only a few feet away from the waiting area. I had a Long Island top shelf which tasted meehhh but it wasn't anything worse than a drink from Friday's. I'd rate it 4/10 I had the calamari which had no seasoning I added some as you can see pictured. The saving grace was the marinara. Which was phenomenal. You can literally bottle that and take it home. 10/10 there the calamari I'd give a 6/10 higher score because once seasoned it was good. I ended with the special of the day, Ahi Tuna with Wasabi and rice. Again lacking flavor but I added and it elevated it. The Wasabi played well with the tuna. I asked for mine temp cooked which given the servers response I don't think they typically do. So I thought that was very kind of them. If they just could kick the flavor up this place would really be a peach. I give 8/10 on the tuna. Overall my server was kind, really only hang up is the neglectful greeting at the door. I left her 20% as she met all other needs. The pricing for lunch with all I had came to $39 I'm not upset either with that very affordable. Cleanliness I also used the restroom 10/10. I recommend for sure I will give another chance. I think I'll come for dinner as the steak sounds amazing.

I visited by myself one evening strictly because of the reviews. It was a busy Saturday night but despite the busyness the staff were still very much amazing to be Frank. When I got seated, I was seated by the manager because he just happened to be working just as hard as his staff which was beautiful to see and experience. I was greeted by a very busy waitress but again, her busyness did not take away from her ability to be attentive, swift when needed to be, and friendly. The food, oh my gosh!! I don't know when was the last time I took my first bite of my food when it arrived and actually shimmeed in my seat because of how good it was. I got the stuffed steak with the mashed potatoes and the side of spaghetti cuz, I'm a spaghetti girl. Beautifully seasoned and all the things. The only thing that I would say was shocking to me was the caesar salad that I added to my dinner, it was an extra $5.99. I think that is way too much for a side salad that's added on to your entree in addition to the fact that it was quite small. That joint should have been no more than an extra $2.99, $3.99 at most. But other than that everything was amazing and I enjoyed reheating my food the next day and finishing it off!!

We were seated right away in a both in the back room. We asked for a high chair later to be told by the waitress and manager that we could not have one bc of the aisle way. Which is find but the hostess should not of seated us there and the manager should of offered a solution. Food came in a timely manner. Our food was good and hot. We ordered the zucchini as an appetizer. I thought the breading could of had more flavor, but over all good. My mom got the stuff eggplant appetizer as her meal she said it was good very cheesy. I got the Greek pasta, the small portion. Still a nice size portion, I'd like more chicken in it but over all a good pasta. My sister got the French dip, only complaint the juice was split onto her chips. Good experience.
