If you are booking a Hampton Inn in Williamsburg, make sure it’s at the other, newer location, closer to the historic district or skip Hampton/Hilton all together, none in Williamsburg seem to get very good reviews. This location is run-down and dirty. If you read thru the reviews, all of the problems, doors not opening, phones not working, WiFi, humid hallways, uncomfortable beds, no hot water, go back several years. We stayed in June 2025, and all of these things were still problems in the 2 rooms we stayed in.
We reserved 4 nights for a family trip, and we wanted to leave after the first night. The beds were like sleeping on the floor. We like Hampton Inns and suites, the beds are usually very comfortable, high-levels of cleanliness, decently priced, and rooms big enough for family of 5.
Many of the property photos in the profile and reviews AREN'T THIS LOCATION. There the other Hampton Inn and Suites also in Williamsburg about 4 miles away.
Both rooms - the desk phone doesn’t work, can't call any of the extensions or make an outside phone call. Told front desk, they said maintenance would address it, nothing was done. A problem other reviews notes, so they're aware of the problem.
Both room doors stick at the top, so hard we had to shove it open and close every time. Another safety issue. A problem other reviews notes, so they're aware of the problem.
We reserved connecting rooms. One room door opened and the other was jammed at the top and wouldn't open. We called the front desk right after checking into the room, they said they'd get maintenance to look at it the next day. Nothing was done. Looking back thru comments, this has been mentioned several times, so the management knows but plays dumb when you tell them.
The beds are hard and uncomfortable, and there is almost no padding. Hampton Inn beds are usually extremely comfortable. These are like sleeping on the floor. I couldn't sleep on my side or back for more than an hour without being uncomfortable. We woke up in pain, back and neck. The kids also didn't like the mattresses. They said they couldn't find a comfortable spot and had a hard time sleeping.
They use an extremely heavy comfitor and duvet that's a weighted blanket, instead of the puffy comfitor and thin blanket you can't separate. All of us woke up blazing hot and have to throw off this massive blanket to cool off. Nobody liked the heavy blanket, plus it's June, it's hot, I don't want a heavy blanket.
Hallways are uncomfortably warm and humid. The humidity leaks into the room. The AC is extremely loud and makes the room cold and humid. Half of us woke up with sinus issues.
Bathrooms are gross. There's a brown scum line inside the bathtub. I'm not sure how that happens when there isn't a drain plug. Above the sink, it looks like someone flicked about 100 boogers onto the ceiling and there's a burn mark on the ceiling. Bathtub constantly dripped and the hot water wouldn't hold a constant temp. It cycled cool then warm.
The WiFi is very unreliable and unstable.
The breakfast bar was gross. Floor was sticky, and the tables weren't wiped down between guests. They served the hot bar food in the same pans for the entire 4 hours, refilling the pan over and over. That has to be a health code violation with all the germs from people's hands.
The entire inside common area is filthy. The floors, windows, walls, and elevator doors are dirty, grimey, streaked, and the carpets were dingy. I mentioned to the front desk that someone wiped their greasy hand down the entire wall of the elevator Tuesday morning, the greasy hand print was still there 2 days later. I can't imagine what the pet friendly rooms must smell like.
They don't clean rooms daily, we had to get bags and empty the trash and get...
Read moreFor a Hampton Inn, this one is in need of update and repairs. We had a queen suite, which means a larger room with a couch and chair besides the desk. The good: made reservations through Hilton and called hotel, got the room I asked for on the side facing a neighborhood, so outside was quiet. Staff courteous. Breakfast standard Hampton Inn fare, no better, no worse. I liked the firm beds, brought my own pillows. Room was clean. The mini fridge and the safe and door lock worked. The USB ports were convenient. There was adequate light in the bedroom. The cons: no central air in hotel, just noisy window units. Ours took 24 hours to maintain a sort of constant temperature. It was noisy and woke me up several times every night, but first night was worse with varying hot and cold all night. Since bedding is a sheet or a heavy quilt, it was impossible to be comfortable that first night. . Bathroom was wonky, the sensor light was either broken or incomprehensible, had to push various parts of it many times for the light to go on. The shower started out very hot, then turned cold if even edged down a tad. It took a long time to get warm water in the sink, which had a prominent crack. Despite larger room, no place on floor to put suitcases out of the way, had to place them on couch and chair. The hair dryer attached to the wall by the sink could not be plugged in the outlet there, we asked for a hammer or a hair dryer and were brought a hair dryer we could plug anywhere. The tv is old, in an awkward position to watch from the beds, no channel guide, endless scrolling to find anything of interest. The halls and elevator were very hot , they seemed as if they had no AC at all. The elevator we used closed its doors on you every time as you entered, no delay at all. You had to keep your hand on it the whole time to keep,it from shutting on your body. It had a broken off rail on one side with sharp exposed edges, and stayed that way for the three days we were there, I meant to report it and forgot. The floor in the breakfast area was sticky and both me and my friend squeaked and stuck to it with each step. In general I am a loyal Hilton brand hotel fan, have stayed in some Hamptons which were great, but this was not one of them. I am sure I am rating the correct hotel, there are three near one another in Williamsburg and we stayed in this one. The price was high for the quality of the room. This could be a great hotel with renovations and repair, each problem was not a deal breaker but the number of them made it an overall disappointing stay. It was not the level of quality I expect for a Hilton...
Read moreI have decided to edit my review due to the hotel finally responding to me via GOOGLE. We arrived with a medical service pet. A MEDICAL SERVICE ANIMAL. I arrived at the hotel and was met by a not so friendly, but all business like staffer named Ashley. Upon arrival, we were given a room that was available, but told that our Diamond status meant nothing and no upgrades would be offered. No problem. I was in our room for less than 10 minutes when I received a call that told me our MEDICAL SERVICE PET was not allowed and we must leave the hotel or "get rid of" the MEDICAL SERVICE PET. I asked many questions as to why and was informed that she confirmed it with the hotel GM that we did not have a dog, cat, or a miniature horse. I called my Hilton honors rep who called the hotel staff and they were told to find me a different property to stay at. At this point, I am in hysterics as we are 5 hours away from home and I have all the paperwork certifying our pet, which by the way is a 4lb miniature Holland lop that is litter box trained among other things. I went down to the front desk and Ashley had left for the evening so I spoke with a nice gentleman who asked me to provide proof of disability and paperwork for our pet, which I did. He told me to stop worrying and that he would handle everything. 24 straight hours of pure hell and stress worrying about our fur family member. I then go the hotel lobby the next day and see that this is a freaking pet friendly hotel! Why in the world would someone cause me that much stress and drama when all they had to do was say that?! Instead, I was told the hotel only accepted SERVICE ADA COMPLIANT DOGS, CATS, AND MINIATURE HORSES! However, the hotel was filled with barking dogs and whatever other pet walked through the door. When speaking to another guest, I asked if their pet was a service animal and they told me no. I have been waiting for a call from the hotel since June 18th. I have called and left many messages, but my calls have all gone unanswered. You caused my family so much wasted time when I could have easily paid a pet fee and signed the pet waiver. We have achieved Diamond status due to all of our Hilton stays with our service animal. Very upsetting. You would have been given 5 stars. The hotel was clean, most staff was friendly, good breakfast, wonderful location, great lobby area. Next time you have a child who is staying at your hotel with a medical service pet, please be kind and...
