New hotel and nice rooms, but that was it. Really getting tired of surprises at check-in. Either open the hotel as normal or list what is not available on the IHG website for each property. Using COVID-19 as an excuse for not providing certain services is unacceptable. ||||1. No housekeeping during the 4 nights we stayed due to "Covid-19" If so concerned, why did the housekeeping staff not wear any masks when cleaning the rooms of those who had just checked out? I only saw 1 housekeeping staff wear a mask the entire 4 days I was there. ||||2. Pool was closed because the "county would not let them open" Hogwash!! I called another hotel in Jasper County and their pool was open. Also called the Jasper County Health Department who advised that the pools have been allowed to be open since Indiana went to level 3 which was on June 1, 2020. Hotel claims there is a restriction on their ability to open the pool which is probably a permit issue. If they get by until September without opening, then the pool will be closed for the season. Local management says all of the references to the pool on the IHG website have been removed which is not true. I checked right before posting this review and they are still advertising the pool as being open. ||||3. Breakfast was absolutely pitiful!! Nothing the first day as they ran out. Days 2-4 only prepackaged pastries from a store and no yogurt or milk for the kids. Hotel could have had full breakfast with a staff member serving each guest, but choose to cut corners and not do so.||||If not on points, I would have checked out after one night! I am a loyal IHG Spire Elite customer and unfortunately is NOT a good example of what a Holiday Inn Express should be. The pictures on the IHG website (pool, breakfast, etc.) are very misleading as none of the facilities or services advertised were being offered. ||||Do yourself a favor and pass on this property. For what this hotel offers which is nothing more than a room and bed, you can get the same value by staying at the competing...
Read moreThis is a new hotel, with some growing pains perhaps. By and large the staff was friendly, but it was not a perfect experience. For example:
(a) Both days we were there, there was no fruit, or Fruit Loops (fruit phobia?). The first day my wife asked the breakfast worker if there was any fruit and was told "No!". Then she asked if there was any hot chocolate; "No!". The second day I asked if there was any fruit and was told "No, sir" in a somewhat friendlier way.
(b) In the middle of the first night there was some guest yelling in the hallway something to the effect of "You're not supposed to come into the room when there are panties on the door handle."
I don't want to get into whatever was going on with (b), but the breakfast issue indicates that either the breakfast staff don't care about fully stocking the area (in other respects this person was very attentive to the area), or they are not authorized by management to fix problems (e.g. buy fruit from the gas station next door, or the grocery store two miles away). Either way, I don't expect to see fruit missing from a HIE for two (or more?) consecutive days. If I want that kind of experience I'll go to a cheaper hotel.
[Note: I tried uploading a photo but got this message: "We were unable to accept the image you uploaded. It must be at least 533 pixels tall, but was 533 pixels." Which doesn't make a lot of sense. This was just a standard picture...
Read moreWe stayed here before, years ago; pre covid. There was a college graduation and ball games in town, and a week before our stay, our local family booked this for us. It was nice, years ago. This time, not.King room with a fold out couch. The couch belonged in a landfill. The seat covers were torn and covered with a towel like stretch material. The fold out was disgusting. Springs sticking through and no mattress pads or bedding. We got sheets and a cover and pillows and slept on the seat. Lighting is poor. Decor on walls was non-existent, Totally. There was material from a previous guest left in a cabinet. Master bedroom was bare wall and only a very small set of drawers. No place for a suitcase or other. Two very dim bedside lights with the only switch on the light. Baseboard carpet was falling off the walls. We had less towels than people, so we asked for more. They gave us bath mats! There were several black areas in the shower. We stayed several nights. We asked the front desk at breakfast for the room to be made up and fresh towels. We returned that evening to the room untouched. Trash cans not emptied, bed unmade and towels wet and on a stack. We were charged a "We're almost sold out, so we raised our rates", exorbitant rate. We deserve a refund or compensation. Hopefully not a re-stay at...
