We went in for the first time and both my friend and I found treasures. Unfortunately when I went up to pay the owner who was working the desk informed me that the brooch set I was buying was "worth way more" than the dealers stickered price of $8, and that the price on the box had to be for the box only, and so she would not be able to sell it to me. She tried to say that the dealer probably didn't know the brooch was in the box, as she closed it to demonstrate. Both myself and my friend who first discovered it, told her that the box lid was under the box, tilted and displaying the jewelry inside, which sat on top of a piece of crumpled tissue paper. She then argued that there was no way she could know that for sure since they had "problems" with the dealer not marking her items clearly. I pointed out since I was buying 3 of the dealers items, that none of her stickers said what the item was. They only had a price, and she hadn't argued the other two items. She still refused, so I asked her to call the dealer since we were not local. Even though she had her cell phone in her hand she said she didn't have a phone to call, claiming it was dead ( it had a card reader attached, so clearly was the way they processed cc transactions), and then asked if I had a phone to call her (?). I had her recite the numbers and I dialed and handed her the phone. Both numbers she said no answer, and left no message. (Later I realized that she probably didn't want the dealer to pick up, so she had me call from my phone so the dealer wouldn't recognize the number and pick up. This made me question if she wanted the item for herself, which would be wildly unethical. I could be mistaken, but what other explanation could there be for a shop to not even have a working phone at the desk ) Since I really wanted the items but live over an hour away I told her that I would give her my info and stake my own reputation as a dealer on making sure the dealer got what she wanted for them, if in fact she had made an error. She was still reluctant and said she has to "protect her dealers". I pointed out that not selling their items is not protecting them, and neither is driving potential customers away. Since I'd worked the desk many times at the shop I am in, I pointed out that it isn't my place to decline a sale because I know an item is worth more, and so the tag must be wrong, and if a dealer complained something was sold for the wrong price we would tell the dealer to be more clear so it doesn't happen again. She said they had done that, so I said then this dealer knows and is fine with her system and doesn't care to change it. She then very reluctantly agreed, probably because other customers were behind me by now seeing this unprofessional behavior. She said it's between me and the dealer now. I asked the dealers name, and as soon as I got outside I called the dealer. I got her voicemail and left a message telling her briefly that I bought her jewelry, it was in a box for $8, but owner tried to not sell to me until I assured her I would pay her whatever the correct price was if it was not marked correctly. I then realized that the owner must have gotten the voicemail too when we called a few minutes earlier, but didn't leave a message- even more suspect. I tried the dealer again the next day, no answer. She then called me back when I was driving and she left a VM. She was very nice and apologetic and said that yes, the price was correct, and she was so sorry she "put both of you in that position" and for me to enjoy the brooch. I feel bad that she thinks any of what happened was her fault.
I rarely leave reviews, but in this case felt it was important so this doesn't happen to another customer, OR dealer. I would have given one star based solely on the owners behavior, but that's not fair to the dealers who rent from her. There are some great dealers in this shop, and they should not lose sales because the owner isn't friendly or professional. So give it a chance, but be prepared that you may not have a smooth transaction...
