I found him on booking.com and sent a message to him asking if it was ok to stay with my cat. I also asked him if he preferred that I book through booking.com, or just message him. He said messaging him was fine, and I prefer to reward the locals rather than give commissions to companies like booking or uber.
I stayed in room 4, the furthest in the back.
He didn't have my room ready. After he took my payment, Mario went in to see if the place looked clean, and there was a used piece of soap on the shower floor.
He gave me a damp towel, saying that it's been hard to dry anything because of the climate. The towel smelled moldy on the second day.
The bed wasn't made, and he gave me sheets in my hand. The bed didn't have a mattress cover.
The handle came off the door when trying to close it. You have to pull on a crossbar in the window instead.
The hot water tank for the room is about 30 liters. Don't expect a long shower to warm you up from the cold.
The door has a gap that lets in as much cold air as the heating unit. The door seal that you would place to block the gap doesn't have any weight to it so it can't do it's job. I used a dirty looking rag instead, that was very damp. It's customary to have a rag for mopping the floor after your shower.
When I turned on the heater, it was set to 30C, because it can only heat the place enough that you won't freeze. Expect the room no warmer than 21C after it's been heated for hours.
The courtyard is spacious, and is a nice place to sit and eat or relax when it's warm. I like the decor.
The bed is very soft, perhaps memory foam. Some people may want more support, but after sleeping on a really hard bed that was killing my back, it was therapeutic.
It's price is among the least expensive. I payed 1400 pesos per night. I would pay more for better staying again in Montevideo.
Mario is very attentive to anything you may need.
