Hotel City Samarkand — Hotel in Samarkand City

The worst experience in my life. The people who work there is not guilty, I'm sure, it's a serious problem at management level and I will study legal actions against them. Also the rooms look good, but here is the story. We came with my uzbek half to spend two nights with our friends arriving from Italy, we were all tourists, I am italian too. But in this hotel they still observe the already not valid law that if you are uzbek and not officially married you cannot stay in the same room. They do not put advises anywhere about this policy, not on Booking, not through travel agency. It is a law already not existing and I am italian, I repeat once again. So we decided to help the workers not have problems with management and agreed we split putting boys in one room, girls in the other. Then when I went to girls room just to take my tooth paste, immediately a waiter came to tell me that we cannot talk in the same room with my half, only in the restaurant. This was enough. We took everything and we moved to another hotel, that as ALL the hotels in Uzbekistan, in ANY city I was DID NOT ask or said ANY THING about marriage, documents. In City Hotel they discriminate their own citizens and they love to ruin vacations to foreigners, as I witnessed. Of course I had to pay penalty for leaving the room, but OF COURSE they give no possibility to pay with international credit cards they say. They give no papers of payment. SHAME...

I was there for 15 days due to transit to Dubai. I found it really bad quality hotel to stay if you are travelling.

they have the slowest wifi which won’t even connect whatsapp if the hotel is full.

We faced straight 12 hours power failure

Water leakage in toilet floor for the straight 14 days

Food was terrible. Even supplied half cooked rice and over cooked eggs.

No kettle, dental kit, teabags or such in the room.

The guy from reception took me to a ATM as a help and took 5$ charge where the normal taxi itself takes less than 1$

They don’t change sheets or blankets everyday. Just in 4 days and that too just sheets. The blankets we used were like that ever since the hotel was there I think. Not washed.

Reception staffs were good...

Stayed here for a few nights and encountered no issues. Staff were friendly, rooms were cleaned daily and had working air con /heating available. WiFi was good (they have multiple routers so make sure you get different passwords at reception) The variety of food at breakfast could be better but hey you can't have everything in life I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️ Room view was overlooking their courtyard so could be worse. Hotel was within 10 minute walk of restaurants, grocery shops.

Would stay again if I ever find myself in...
