Well run, well done
Izumrud Palace is the kind of small, family run enterprise that deserves our support. Room was clean and spotless, newly refurbished and everything was in great working order. Bed was very comfortable. AC/Heater worked really well. Smart TV. Breakfast was simple yet complete—with a great supply of varying Uzbekistan pastries. Bathroom even had a heated floor. Balcony had a nice view to the street—but was able to keep away noise because its double paned.
It’s a stone throw away from the Registan—a quick 5 minute cab ride away. Cabs can be easily hailed with the Yandex app—no need to haggle a price and generally fares were priced well. Airport is about 20minutes away and the train station is 15.
There are also lots of good restaurants around the area—a local burger place, a nice italian place called Roni and even a KFC. There’s also a small convenience store/mart a few feet away from the hotel if you need anything like chips or toiletries.
Overall, Izumrud Palace is in a great location and for the rate, offers excellent value. The owner was even kind enough to order a taxi ride for me to the station. With this kind of concern and care for their guests, I’m sure...

Read moreI sadly had the distinct UNPLEASURE of staying at the SORRY EXCUSE for a "hotel" for a night, before running away.
While the Breakfast was good, the room I had received... well, it was, without a single shred of doubt, THE VERY ABSOLUTE WORST I have EVER been to. You can see it in the pictures I attach: a miserable attic, with the ceiling merely CENTIMETERS away from your head at some places, with BARELY-existing windows and the one MISERABLE EXCUSE for a "window", right by the floor, had opened merely to allow the stench of roasting Animals bodies, from the nearby "restaurant" (unbearable for me, as a Vegetarian), as bad as the EXTREMELY strong light from the street-lights, aimed straight at that "window", which the "curtains", such as there were, had done nothing to obscure. For ALL NIGHT LONG (one of the pics, was taken at the dead of night, with all my lights turned off).
In simple words: a complete HORROR.
And for that atrocious tiny "room", they are charging $80(!!) per night - while not far from there, at any of numerous other hotels, INFINITELY Superior rooms would cost you between $20, and $30 per...
