I will split this review it into 2 sections the Hotel Room and public areas/spa/restaurant and level facilities as whilst my review of the public areas as you will see are quite positive the Level section is very damming and has a massive impact on my rating especially given the lack of communication from the hotel since departing and emailing our concerns
Hotel - Beautiful location and beach area, the reception area is very nice.
Room - We had the Prestige Suite, Bedroom - Beautiful views and the bed was very firm but extremely comfortable. Living room - Fantastic view of the beach (just remember that people can see in from the outside Bathroom - Amazing Jacuzzi bath tub
Food - The food in beach restaurant and service was really good, the buffet breakfast was very good quality.
Spa - we had massages on the first night and these were excellent
Pools - There are 2 pools for everyone in the hotel to use both really nice although the Infinity pool doesn’t have a lot a sunbeds the other one whilst has more it was still extremely busy.
Level Review,
In addition to the below I have made a complaint about something else that I am still trying to get to the bottom of once I do I will post about this.
Level facilities - If you have stayed in a level suite with the Melia before there is standard that you come to expect this really isn’t it and to be honest I would say you are better off booking a normal room and forgoing the level completely.
First of all where the Level is generally a more exclusive experience where here it feels like there are more level suites then normal rooms at this hotel (I think there are 58 by each level pool) plus the prestige suite which we stayed in, as you will see below the number of level suites causes a lot of issues.
Lounge - The level lounge is now 1 tiny room (they have scrapped the level lounge by pool 1 & 3) the lounge that is left is small with no view, warm drinks, empty ice buckets and really poor snacks (aging nearly always empty) also trying to get a seat in the evening is practically impossible.
Afternoon tea - This was served in the main restaurant and whilst the quality was good it really isn’t an enjoyable experience being shoved in the corner of the restaurant with no views. I understand that this is being moved to the newly renovated beach bar which could be quite nice.
Breakfast - on day 2 we were able to get seating in the corner area where the level breakfast is served good quality and acceptable service, on day 3 there was no seats in the level area so we were sat away from it and the service was non existent to the point we had to remind them after 20 Minutes about our order which came out wrong in the end.
What is extremely frustrating about the whole breakfast area is that if they didn’t offer a level breakfast you wouldn’t complain given the buffet breakfast is so good but if you are going to offer something then make sure that you can actually offer it as it should be.
Level pools - there are 3 level pools and they are very much needed given how busy the other pools are unfortunately service in the level pools is painfully slow (you use a QR code and order to your sunbeds) the other big problem was how dirty the level pool area was (we used pool 2 most of the time) there was always dirt plates and glasses and you never saw anyone coming around to tidy up.
Staff - Very hit and miss, all the staff were polite but I complained to one of the male members of staff in the level and he said that he would pass this on to the manager whom did not contact me during my stay, also on check out we had arranged for our bags to be collected in the morning which wasn’t done, and no one at check out asked us about our stay.
On a positive note I will say that I arranged for a birthday treat for my wife at check in this was done in the form of a very nice cake, and I also spoke to one of the girls in the level about a recommendation for a restaurant overlooking dragon bridge (I believe her name was Dulcie) the place she recommended and booked was...
Read more*Updates in photos Let’s start this with the only good thing about this place, the early check in and whatever happens next is just pure disaster. So while we are checking in the receptionist took out her personal phone and took a picture of me and my girl’s passport without even telling us what it’s for until we told her to delete the photo.
The following morning we found out there’s couple gecko poo at the entrance first then later found out the drain was clogged so we ask for maintenance and thought they’d notice so never mention abt the gecko poo and they just sat there 4 days straight during our stay with constant room cleaning.
Later that night when we get back from our sightseeing we found out that our money was stolen and ask for a supervisor and the supervisor told us there’s only 3 person that has access to our room and he’ll look into all the surveillance cameras and let us know in the morning at the breakfast which we still have to ask for him to show up.
So the next morning the managers at the establishment asked us if we want the police to be involved and they would be there to interpret for us so we could trust them cause this is the first time that incident like this ever happened.
But while the statement is being taken there’s a couple more supposedly “officers” shows up with no uniform and in flip flops so we asked one of the manager to asked them to show their credentials and which they never did and no one interpreted anything just because the officer say no and ask us just sign the paper. When we refused, one of the manger then told us it’s exactly what we told them but later that day my friend from Vietnam confirmed they didn’t even get the colour of bag the right. How is multicam blue?
I may not know the language but I do recognize the tone the looks and the smirk cause what’s even more outrageous is during the statement the head of security is mocking at us why we call the “cops” for merely 400USD. Sure it’s not a lot but with what we are paying this is unacceptable.
And the manager also lied to us cause there’s at least a dozen ppl who have access to our room not like what he originally told us there’s only 3. Dude our room is just like a public park at this point.
Upon our checkout on Aug 15th We asked 2 individual managers to provide us case number and police reports which they failed till this day cause the one we took is blurry and also there’s at least one statement being taken with the managers which we didn’t know about till later.
I just don’t get how hard is it to get a case number so my friend in Vietnam could follow up.
The entire stay is just pure disaster I may look Asian but it doesn’t mean I speak Korean all the staffs just hands me paperwork in Korean or try to approach me with Korean. What’s even more funny is one morning I was looking for cereal bowl and no one seems to speak English and 2 of the waiter at the restaurant just look at each other and took off at the end it was a janitor who save the day. Also on the second day we went into the restaurant for breakfast and found out the milk is spoiled and tasted sour and the waiter just keep telling us it’s ok they took it out of the fridge in the morning it’s ok. 3 in the morning is morning too and with 30something degrees out you guys have no fridge, ice or any cooling system of sort to preserve the milk that thing is going spoiled in less than 30 min. How you work front of the house without any basic food safe knowledge.
And for those who wants to book the establishment with the level perk I’d strongly suggest you just book an inn for $25 a night and you’d be happier. The unlimited drinks you can only have them at the “the level lounge” which is not a lounge it’s just the check in counter with a couple of sofas. And the happy hour/afternoon tea whatever food you saw in there is basically what’s left from breakfast that they serve.
Lack of food safe lack of security and the I don’t care attitude from the management....

I’m currently midway through a one-week stay at Meliá, and while I still have a few days left, the experience so far has been consistently underwhelming. Based on what I’ve encountered, this hotel does not deserve its 5-star rating.
🛬 Arrival & Check-in
Upon arrival, we were disappointed to find that the two rooms booked for our party were placed in different buildings, quite far apart — despite having requested adjacent rooms in advance. It took an hour before the staff could offer us rooms next to each other. They weren’t quite what we had asked for, but we accepted them out of exhaustion after long travels. Not a great start.
🏨 Rooms & Facilities
No balconies in the deluxe rooms — something we expected based on the hotel category.
Beds are extremely hard, leading to significant back pain from the very first night. Even with an extra duvet added by staff to soften the mattress, the comfort level remains very low.
Soundproofing is poor. On the third morning, I was woken early by a crying baby next door. This was surprising since the first two nights had been quiet, suggesting that insulation is insufficient.
Elevators are slow and can get overcrowded. Stairs are not a good alternative either due to poor air circulation — climbing them feels stifling.
☕ Breakfast & Coffee Experience
Breakfast has been a mixed experience:
The selection is good, and food generally tastes fresh.
However, there are serious service issues. I ordered a freshly brewed coffee (from the barista station) and was told it would be a 20 minutes waiting time. After 32 minutes, I checked — they hadn’t even received my order. After about 10 more minutes they came and served me coffee from the generic self-service pot, not the specialty coffee I requested, and this doesn't taste any nice. It took a total of 50 minutes to get my coffee, and it was only a really small cup. The first day it "only" took 40 minutes.
To make things worse, plates ran out, glasses were unavailable at the juice station, and finding a clean table took an extra 5+ minutes.
A major safety concern: I’m allergic to shellfish, and an item labeled as “pork” turned out to be crab. Luckily I noticed after one bite, but it could have ended very badly.
🍻 Pool Bar & Drink Service
Ordered a beer, only to find a long hair floating in it (photo taken). The drink was swapped out, but I still had to pay for it, with no apology or gesture of goodwill. For a 5-star hotel, this is unacceptable.
Ordered two cocktails at the pool bar — they took exactly 1 hour to arrive. The passionfruit cocktail tasted like it came from concentrate and didn’t match the same drink we’d had in the restaurant.
There’s an obvious lack of coordination and consistency between outlets.
🌴 Beach Area
The beach is one of the better features of the property:
Clean, quiet, with a soft sand bottom.
Felt almost like an adults-only area, which we enjoyed (though this could just be due to luck).
Good range of sports activities available.
🛒 Location
While picturesque, the surrounding area lacks diversity:
Nearly every shop sells the same repetitive souvenirs (mainly stone carvings).
There are no large supermarkets nearby, which limits convenience if you want basic supplies.
👥 Staff & Service
Most of the staff have been friendly and polite, which is appreciated. However, the overall service experience is slow and inconsistent, and some situations (like the beer incident and coffee delays) reflect a lack of training or attention to guest satisfaction.
📉 Conclusion
So far, this stay has been far from relaxing. There’s a significant gap between what Meliá promises as a 5-star property and what it delivers:
Poor service consistency
Lacking in-room comfort
Food labeling issues that pose a health...
