Ha Long Essence Classic Hotel — Hotel in Hạ Long City

So disappointing that we booked Halong Essence Hotel but an hour before on our way from Hanoi, the receptionist rings us saying some lame excuse of people being sick in the hotel that they overbooked and how we must stay in the sister hotel which is the Halong Essence Classic.

That was fine and we were very accommodating to their request to change as they said they would upgrade us, free ‘breakfast’ (watermelon) at the same rate. It was probably a less nicer version of the original hotel and once we arrived the receptionist said 1 way of our transfer for 1.8 million VND was covered which we thought wow how nice of them since they messed up completely on their side and must have been looking to compensate. Then when we checked out they tried to take it back saying oh no we’re very sorry it’s not covered so we got charged everything instead of them having common sense and courtesy about it all. So disappointed and most definitely will never be back.

Please just sort your booking system in future for your own sake as a running business for people to support as this seems to happen all of the time....

So. This hotel was very great in every way! It has to be said that they did offer me a room upgrade if I rated them high, but that being said they actually do deserve 5/5 for everything they did and the quality of the rooms and installations.

Firstly I want to add that it's located In an area that seems like a ghost town for some reason. It seems like Sun Group (the huge vietnamese conglomerate which have their fingers in everything) have went ahead of themselves in upgrading Ha Long among other places to support a HUGE surge of tourism, which just isn't there yet! This hotel is located in an area called Sun Grand City, and it's not populated at all! It does have its charm, but can give you an eerie feeling. But that is NOT the fault of the hotel, they actually now have a totally peaceful spot, which in some way seems secluded. So it's really positive. We had a wonderful experience upon arriving at the Ha Long Essence Classic Hotel. The warm welcome we received from the reception staff made us feel right at home. One gentleman in particular was exceptionally kind—he took the time to explain everything in detail and even upgraded our room free of charge. The service throughout our stay was excellent. Before our arrival, I had been in contact with the hotel's support assistant via WhatsApp, and he was incredibly helpful—one of the best I’ve encountered in all my travels. He assisted us in booking the Rosy Cruise and arranged a limousine transfer back to Hanoi at a very reasonable price. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. The bathroom was well-appointed and met all our needs. We were also offered a generous 50% discount on breakfast, which turned out to be very much worth it.
