Hoang Lan Hotel — Hotel in Hạ Long City

We booked two adjacent rooms at this hotel for a family one night only stay. It should have been quite special for our group of adults and children. |From the moment I walked into the lobby I had an uncomfortable and unwelcome feeling. |There was no friendly welcome for a New Zealand tourist. |When we went to our rooms one room was reasonable but with a very poor bathroom facility. |The other room felt like a cramped prison might with worn out saggy mattresses. and the bathroom was shabby, unclean and on closing the door it jammed and with no handle it needed to be pushed open by somebody on the other side of the door. |I felt most unhappy, insecure and uncomfortable on the worn mattress.|There were no proper bath towels, only one hand towel for everybody of a room of four and it certainly doesn't dry a larger body very well. I did have a hunt through the wardrobes and drawers but they jammed too. |Using the shower, there is a faucet quite high off the floor with a flexible shower head attached. Intending to use the shower head I was blasted with scalding hot water from the faucet.|There was also no kind of security locking on the doors into the rooms. I was feeling very unhappy and tried to discuss it with my friend who booked the room. |She did not understand me and was busy so it was quite some time before she could understand me. By then we had already used the beds for a brief nap. |We chose to leave the hotel and take a long drive home rather than stay the night at this hotel. It spoiled an otherwise wonderful visit to a most beautiful destination, cutting the duration of our visit in half. It was disappointing but still the...

This place is just horrible.||||We booked a room using Agoda, we were stranded in town during a motorcycle tour of Vietnam, with every shop being closed and one of the motorcycles in dire need of repairs we had to find a place to sleep, we went to 4 places before deciding to book online as we thought we could find a better place that way. We ended up at getting two rooms here. the worst place ever, the staff just doesn't care . the rooms are dirty, the toilets where disgusting! I ended up using a tent footprint on top of the bed and then a sleeping bag on top of the footprint. I didn't want to say anything to my travel partners to avoid looking like "the wimp" of the group but when I went to see them their rooms where worst! They slept with their clothes on and in their sleeping bags. Horrible, horrible horrible place!||||We parked our bikes in small area at the entrance, my friend went to use a washroom located in what seemed to be a staff area, he came out of there runing and almost puking, we laughed and went to check that place.....it was kind of like the toilet in Trainspotting. Another horrible experience in vietnam. 3 star rating!? Mould on walls, broken air conditioning, rude staff, sea view looked onto building site. Said hello to the staff when I came in after eating last night and they just looked at me With stony faces. ||||This is Halong city where the tours into the bay leave from. They are a world tourist hotspot but I would say that I have never in all my years of travelling felt so apprehensive about leaving my hotel room. I was the victim of consistent aggressive language directed at me while I walked along the bay front. The last straw was a man coming up to my girlfriend and shouting in her face before laughing at us and walking off. ||||Save your time and money and don't stay here. Oh yeah and our Halong bay tour guide stole 200 usd from our bags and robbed the other members of the tour while we were off the boat.||||Won't be back in...
