Had to leave after 1 night. We had a terrible stay unfortunately.
The host is friendly, helpful and very welcoming. A lovely woman. She offered drinking water and scooter rental which is helpful. Not sure if the issues we found are a new development going by other outstanding reviews but should be known.
This is 4 different bedrooms in 1 big (and beautiful) house, located in a quiet neighbourhood. Therefore, communal living and limited privacy (only private if in your bedroom). To note, the host does not live here, and it feels like an abandoned house that is locked up with a lot of moisture and no airing out, only opened when guests arrive with no preparation beforehand. Rooms felt very dark with heavy-set old curtains and old bedding, no towels. Bathroom and kitchen is communally shared with whoever else is booked.
All of this would be okay if it were cleaned. We found the entirety of the house poorly unkept and incredibly dirty. Old moldy dish towels, the bins full. We did not expect a sparkling hotel for this price and understand that, but we were incredibly uncomfortable.
Our deal breaker was the intense smell of mold, it was everywhere, to the point of struggling to breathe. The house is in total decay and very evidently not looked after lovingly anymore. The aircon was caked in black. We refused to turn it on, as this is incredibly toxic and a huge health hazard. We slept badly, unable to open the windows for relief because of the swarms of mosquitoes and the inescapable damp heavy smell. We had our 1 year old daughter with us and I worried the whole night for her health. Other rooms and the whole of the house did not offer relief. We considered waking her up at 10pm at night it was so bad.
We tried to kindly inform the host in the morning, but left without a refund or any kind of compensation. I would not have written this review if she had taken responsibility but now need to warn others.
I’ve taken some photos of what the in person experience is like that is not shown on booking websites.
This looks like it was once a beautiful homestay ! With an upstairs- and the kitchen and washing machine facility are a great help while travelling. But it’s all been long neglected. It needs a lot of TLC, curtains need a good deep wash or to be replaced, and a deep clean and declutter. That aircon and the fans need replacing they are health hazards and so black.
I believe it can be restored, but that has been our worst accommodation while travelling and in turn a bad introduction...
Read moreI had a wonderful time at Lam Vien Homestay.
For travelers just arriving, the address is correct though Mr. Ti has a wooden plaque of the old name, 'Lam Garden' on the outside for your info.
Nevertheless, I arrived earlier then expected and was welcomed in with friendly smiles, good conversation and a cuppa 🍵 I joined a party of other guests to explore the nearby tomb of past emperor and poet Tu Duc.
What an incredible place, it had everything I needed and more. The bed was comfortable, everything worked, I used the fridge and bathroom with ease and got some peace and quiet.
It is not far from the the main city(about 5 mins)and is based in the south side.
I really recommend this one and to sit and get a chance to speak with owner, he's an incredible guy.

Read moreThe owner is very nice. I felt like being at home. Room is larger than expected and clean. The location is a bit far from the center but it's atmosphere is really Hue. From this homestay, you can walk around 10 minutes to Tu Hieu pagoda. I will definitely stay here next time i come to Hue. Updated May 2023: Sadly the owner, Mr. Tý was passed away and now the place is not the same as before. I wish his family could maintain Lam Vien homestay as great as it used to be. Rest in...
