We did the Grand Kuranda tour which included a lot of fun! Overall 5/5 if there was a guide pointing the way in a few strategic locations
After reading the reviews, I was worried. My husband and I are educated, can read maps, and follow directions. We also read the reviews. If you are expecting a tour guide to lead you everywhere, you would be surprised—and if not, you are going to be loving it!
Upon arrival at the first bus pick-up, we were given a set schedule which showed us what time to go where.
When we got to the train, we just sat and waited briefly for our train. We asked if we could upgrade to 1st class, and we were told no—that this train was not running its first class this early on a non-busy morning. Families were seated together and given their own row, as it wasn’t too busy of a winter day (July).
Once the train got to Kuranda, it’s kind of self-paced for a bit. We didn’t know if we were supposed to see the koala there, and a bus driver was nearby to explain we would see them at the next stop. Here, we shopped and went quickly through the butterflies.
After that, we followed the directions from the second bus driver who took us to the Rainforestation Nature Park, where we were given another map and timeline. We had a huge buffet lunch and tons of fun. My husband and I added on a picture with a koala, which cost $40 AUD and lasted 2 seconds. We then were able to participate in all the fun activities in the descriptions. We especially loved feeding kangaroos ($2), boomerang throwing, the cultural show, and the duck boat.
Last, we were taken to the aerial tram. Here, you could upgrade to the diamond car for $35 AUD each. In addition, the diamond cars had a faster line if there is one. I highly recommend downloading the app the station suggests. The views were absolutely magnificent.
Note the length of time for this tour, and we were happily busy every moment. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who can self-pace and follow directions in English. P.S. We signed up for the Daintree Rainforest tour with another company and felt the two overlapped quite a bit. The BIG plus here is that it was A LOT less...
Read moreA truly unforgettable Kuranda experience with Tropic Wings
Today felt like stepping into a living postcard. From the moment we departed for Kuranda, nestled in the World Heritage-listed rainforest, I knew this would be something special — and Tropic Wings absolutely delivered.
The day began aboard the legendary Kuranda Scenic Railway, winding through lush mountainsides, waterfalls, and dramatic ravines. The views were stunning, and the railway itself was a marvel of engineering.
Once in Kuranda, we visited Rainforestation Nature Park, where history and nature came together beautifully. The WWII Army Duck tour was both fun and educational, and our guide was fantastic — knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely passionate. It felt like a moving classroom surrounded by ancient trees and vibrant life.
The Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience was the highlight of the day. More than a performance, it was a powerful cultural exchange. The traditional dances, didgeridoo, and boomerang/spear demonstrations offered a deep and respectful insight into First Nations heritage. I left with a profound appreciation for their connection to the land.
We also explored the Koala & Wildlife Park, which was a gentle reminder of how unique and precious Australia’s wildlife truly is.
To finish, we soared above the rainforest canopy on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. The views were breathtaking — endless layers of green with glimpses of the Coral Sea. The Skyrail app is well worth downloading; the narration added a thoughtful touch to an already magical ride.
I returned to Cairns with a full heart and a deeper sense of wonder. Tropic Wings made the entire experience seamless, enriching, and unforgettable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Far...
Read moreI don't want to give a low star rating because you seem like a very reputable company but two things need some tweaking on two tours...
The Discovery Centre at Port Douglas only provided butternut biscuits for our morning tea after a two hour bus ride...it was lunch time and we were all starving. Yes, there were other things for purchase from the cafe but the selection was limited. I had to buy some crisps to fill up on. Maybe a selection of sandwiches and pastries would've filled out tummies much better for the two hour drive back. Otherwise it was very informative and relaxing being in the rainforest.
The Kuranda railway tour only offered one hour up on Kuranda. This only afforded us time to walk up the hill, use a toilet, purchase a sausage roll and scoff it down before the bus arrived again to take us back. There wasn't any time to look at the shops or the butterfly house as we wanted. Perhaps two hours would suffice in future.
Carmel is also a very kind and friendly tour guide...so energetic! But she may need to "read the room" in order to know when guests want lots of chatter or some peace and quiet. There was a baby crying a lot on the bus and I'm sure the loud speaker above her ear did not help in putting her to sleep.
Thank you. I'm sure you'll endeavour to make...
