Burra is such a beautifully preserved heritage town. I highly recommended the heritage passport tour and make sure you allow yourself a couple of days to do it over so that you can really take in the sites and history. I found that I spent well over an hour each at the Monster Mine site and Redruth Gaol as they are both so fascinating. If you’re only passing through for the day I recommend you check out the Mine Site, Redruth Gaol, Police Lockup & Stables, Miners Dugouts and Malowen Lowarth Cottage. Some of the sites are run by volunteers and residents who reside on the properties and do close early so keep this in mind when planning out your day. You can still look around the grounds of these sites but just can’t go inside. I’ll definitely be back as soon as I get the chance.
