First time in Coogee so I decided to check some facebook groups for fish and chips recommendations. A few comments had suggested Kim's and as that was the closest we decided to get some small snacks before hitting the beach, then coming back for lunch later. We didn't bother coming back after witnessing some of the most unprofessional behaviour and average food we could remember. And I'm not trying to be a Karen and I'm pretty tolerant but this was pretty bad service and judging by some other reviews I'm not alone in thinking so. Firstly, the lady who is supposedly running the place was on the phone speaking to someone in her native language, which is fine and all but it was on speaker phone and they were really loud, and the fact that when we approached the counter to be served, she didn't stop talking, she made us wait there for about a minute while she spoke on the phone which was clearly not a business call. We just looked at each other in confused surprise. When she did finally serve us, she didn't stop talking either, in between taking our order and speaking to whoever was on the other side. The whole time we were there she was on the speaker phone, and then the business phone, probably a customer trying to make an order, kept ringing and ringing and she didn't answer it. It was pretty difficult to watch the unproffesionalism on display. As for the food, we ordered a dim sim, couple crab sticks which were very average but the chicken cheese sausage was about 2 days old and tasted like it. We didn't take the chance on the fish and chips so I can't review on that. Most businesses prioritise customer service, this place clearly does not prioritise it's customers. Sadly, it seems like another business bought by unprofessional people for visa purposes which is killing...

Last night we waited for nearly 2 hours for our Family Seafood Platter costing $76 that missed a few advertised products and the food was burnt/overcooked. We arrived to order at 6.03pm, to then be told that it would take an hour to an hour and half wait. We ordered, paid then my 6mth pregnant friend and I decided to drop her 2 kids under 2 yrs of age home to our husbands. We returned in an 1 hour 15mins. When I asked the front young person (with dark hair and glasses) for an update, he rudely corrected me in a condescending tone saying "I put you down for 7.30pm pick up!". So we patiently waited, me - a type 1 diabetic and my friend - a pregnant 6month woman. We received our meal at 7.50pm. I asked the young server if it was all correct and he said yes. Unfortunately when we got home there was missed ingredients and the meal was burnt and overcooked. So so disappointing. To be on holiday from another state to experience this, was really deflating. Understandably, it was Good Friday, a Public Holiday however, with only 3 people staffed, this failed to provide any quality service. Please improve your quality of service and plan ahead for congested orders on a...

Expensive for what it is but the worst part is still paying a generous amount for terrible customer service.

The lady who works/owns this shop has rushed us ordering as she was closing the shop in 20 minutes (her words while browsing the menu) as well as after waiting 20 minutes for our small fish and chips upon collection refunding us what we paid for Pluto pups as she somehow realised she didn’t have any. After saying to make sure we stay there to pick it up because the time she finished. Seemed like she just wanted to leave.

This is our experience as a couple and a toddler after a year since our last visit. A year ago we still had the same terrible customer experience.

Do not recommend this place at all because...

My review is based on a Thursday lunchtime visit. I ordered fish and chips ($15) and a pineapple fritter. Walked in at 12pm it was dead quiet so was served quite fast and only waited 10mins for my order. For $15 I have had more value and better quality at other places. Sadly she forgot my pineapple fritter, the fish was fine and the batter thin and crispy. Chips were ok…more than likely over cooked as they were not fluffy inside just crispy. They have a variety of food and drinks not really a place you can sit down to eat if it’s busy. She didn’t really give a good vibe as if she didn’t wanna be there.

We got the family size sea food platter. None of it was good, the squid rings and prawns were burnt, the fish was not fresh and the chips were cold and stale. They also didnt give us the sauce we paid for. We went back to the store to be told the chips are "just like that" (cold and stale is apparently their standard??) and the prawns and squid were supposed to be cooked for the time they were (so if you get prawns and squid rids expect burnt food). I am not making this up, please I do not recommend going there. Attached is a picture of the burnt batter- we didn't think to take photos beforehand.

Great Fish and Chips crispy n perfect. Fleshy fresh fish without too much batter. Ample chips - and the proper size. Around $15 per portion. Reasonably fast as possible service (they are always busy). No complaints at all from our multiple visits over a few years. TV and a few chairs while you wait. Or pre order and your meal will be ready when you arrive. Always served well wrapped and hot. Drinks are icy cold from the cooler. Friendly staff. No old fat smells from kitchen area - the cooking oil is clearly fresh. One of the best fish & chips shops around.
