Woolworths is gradually getting rid of any competition by creating/replacing any diversity of brands with its own brand or a brand they own or have a deal with. Its always much cheaper buying their brands of course. Since there is no Coles nearby nor an aldi, and independent grocery stores tend to cost too much, so we are stuck with a monopoly in this area. That's capitalism baby!
Woollies is charging by the tomato online eg $1.32 plus for one Truss tomato, $3.40 for a capsicum etc. They don't charge by the Veggie and fruit item in store and they had no excuse for the huge difference between in store food prices and their online price.
The few good vegan options at Woolworths they tend to replace with inferior options over time.
The quality and freshness of their veggies etc has improved since I wrote my last review 3 or so years ago. However their stone fruit tastes like nothing as it is picked way before its ripe and gas ripened so it goes off suddenly.
They are gradually reducing staff to replace them with machines at the check out. I suggest people continue to go through the check out to keep people employed.
No competition is not good...
Read moreThe fruit and veggies are overpriced. They rot after a day in the fridge. They are gassed within an inch of their life before being placed on the shelves. They hold a monopoly in this area as there are only smaller shops like IGA and Salamanca Fresh and therefore to a degree they treat the public with contempt by phasing out many brands and replacing them with their "Select" brand. I really dislike shopping there so I shop at IGA in Cygnet as they have much fresher produce and the family in the larger IGA - the Farrahs -- are a delight. I hope that Woolworths have more competition in the future, because they don't need to try at present. Their staff are friendly and that's the only good thing about this...
Read moreBetter if they paid staff to serve you. And, what the ? Is going on with the whiskas cat food? Most times i go, the shelves are empty unless you buy the stupid pouches that are not only not enough for 1 cat, let alone 2 but cost a fortune. Staff tell me that whiskas want woolies to pay more per tin, woolies refuse to and therefore not stocking as much of their tinned product. What a joke! The way woolies provides tinned cat food nowdays, it won't be long before ppl cannot afford to feed their cats! I dont see why i have to drive to another suburb, especially when they are the only major supermarket in the area, just to buy cat food. Shame on...
