Changlimithang Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan, which serves as the national stadium. It is predominantly used for football matches and is the home of the Bhutan national football team, other national selections and number of Thimphu-based football clubs. The stadium also regularly plays host to women's football, archery tournaments, minifootball and some volleyball matches. The stadium was initially constructed in 1974 for the coronation of the fourth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck, but was completely refurbished in 2007 in advance of the coronation of the fifth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. Floodlighting was added to the football pitch in 2009 and an evergreen turf was laid in 2012, to coincide with the start of the first season of the National League. Located 2,300 meters (7,500 ft) above sea level, the stadium is one of the highest in the world. It has raised numerous controversies in footballing circles, as its significant altitude affects the absorption of oxygen in the human body, offering considerable advantage to the home teams who are more accustomed to...

Most important: Entry is free for witnessing any activity! True spirit of Thimphu, infact all of Bhutan! You would be amazed by the fact that how such a peaceful happy and holy peoples can show such dedication and motivation towards the their evening sports. Football matches, archery competitions are a regular activity here every evening.

My favourite was the archery, even in the weekend mornings, this was so interesting in just watching and even nudged me a couple of times to get me one of those bows! I preferred going for a takeaway coffee or tea and sitting on the stadium or archery bench steps for a couple of hours and let the Thimphu sports soak in.

**There is a cool chaat and coffee kiosk down the stairs from the square to the stadium besides the hotel Wangchuk. This is the favourite evening snacking and coffee pong amongst locals, and worth a definite try for the amazing bhel puri, paani puri and coffee to go. One could also get a take away incase you’re heading for a match at...

It is the largest stadium in Bhutan and currently functions as a national stadium of Bhutan. This stadium has got significant importance in Bhutan’s history where countless battles were fought and other numerous critical events took place on this area where the current stadium stands. As of today it has got artificial turf and all the national and international sports takes place inside this stadium. At the sametime all other important national events are celebrated inside this stadium. Besides some sports and events going on, there is nothing much to do inside. Giving a brief visit to have a glimpse on it is reasonable while visiting other nearby attractions like the Centenary farmers market and Centenary & Coronation park in Thimphu city as they are very close to each other. I had a brief visit inside to get some pictures but I was restricted to enter the main ground. Time of...
