Rave to the Alma Theatre, the dynamic duo of Caleb and Travis, and Patty for an unbelievable movie night experience.
I finally made the time to check out Wainwright's movie theatre. What better night to go than on a Saturday Night, prime time (6:45pm), and a box office hit (Avengers: Infinity War in 3D)!
When I got there at 6:35, it was about lined up to the door. Because they took cash only, it didn't take long before it was my turn to pay. Patty was cheerful, and patiently explained to me that they only have the 2D show during the day. The price for both type of shows was a great value. It was a little hot in the lobby area, so before I bought the ticket, I asked if there is A/C in the movie itself. I was assured it did.
Next, I met a friendly young man named Caleb. He was well mannered and energetic just like his buddy working the popcorn machine. Caleb worked the till non stop and showed pride in his job.
The second young lad operating the popcorn machine; His name is Travis. He was hopping back and fourth as he helped the customer before me. Between getting the popcorn and adding butter to the popcorn; Travis was efficient and really enjoyed his work. It was my turn, and I was really excited about the freshness of the popcorn because they were put in the popcorn bag as soon as they were made. Travis evenly spread the butter around and was generous in the butter as to give it the best flavour. In the past, I've seen lazy people squirt all the butter down the middle in one spot. The popcorn was excellent down to the last popped kernel..... Thanks Travis!
The movie was played in the middle theatre; The largest of the three. The sound was clear and the base was awesome! I sat in the very last row because it was 99% full. The air conditioning was perfect. The air and ventilation in there was fantastic and didn't feel like stale air! In fact, it was so relaxing; I almost fell asleep, so I left halfway through the movie.
Thank you Patty, Caleb and Travis, for your outstanding service! Next time everyone is there; Say hi to Caleb and watch out for Travis; He will dazzle you with his popcorn...
Read moreA lot of reviews here from several years ago have complaints about staff and seats. I'll say that there has been new management in the last year or so, and I've found the customer service to be exceptional. They messaged me to inform that the movie I was waiting on, and was uncertain it would come here, (Bob's Burgers) was in. The seats have been replaced in recent years and are much comfier, with more useful cupholders, than years past. Even the sticky floors have been rectified for the most part! Previously Alma only accepted Cash, but they now have online booking and credit/debit options as well as the ATM.
Yes the prices are city prices and the building is old as the hills, but I will always support our small town theatre. We are lucky to have the option to enjoy the big screen within a few minutes of our homes. The staff is wonderful and the treats are just as delicious as any other theatre. My only complaint is the taps in the bathrooms because you have to hold them to keep them running, but that is minor. Thank you Alma for always being there for this movie loving gal...
Read moreThe staff are atrociously terrible at providing competent service. I have been to the theatre numerous times and each time it feels like everything the staff does is an inconvenience to them. "I would like to purchase tickets to _ movie please" - response "sigh" or grumbling, "well you have to pay cash" or some miserable comment. Butter layered? You might have as well as asked them to count 100000 pennies. It's almost worth the drive to Edmonton to get service with a smile, good or great sound system and comfortable seats with working drink holders.
Do not recommend but unfortunately the only...
