Came back for another few rounds and: So far, remembering the brie burger with fondness. It was amazing, the mix of brie and cranberry was the best.
May 18th - had the Poke bowl Unfortunately was unpleasantly surprised, I would recommend many other items but perhaps not this one. The rice was a medium/short grain but seems to have had all the starch washed right out, so unfortunately had no stick and no bite. The grains were coming out broken. The rice was served hot with a warmed plate, so by the time the plate reached the table... the fresh cut vegetables, cilantro, avocado, and tuna were all lukewarm. The tuna itself was not bad at all, but it was diced small and served almost more like another topping to the rice as opposed to the main show of the dish. The nori on top seemed to be the type used for rolling maki, so not only was the nori already relatively tougher and unseasoned, the heat of the rice wilted the seaweed and it had no crisp. The ginger was cut thick... though the flavour was actually very nice, it was too thick and warmed to quite serve as a light topping with the nice bite that cuts through the heaviness of the rice. The chips on the side were excellent by the way... But that, and the poke sauce was really the only redeeming factors.
The concept of it was great but the execution was unfortunate.
With all that said though, I still love the food at Honeypot, and recommend it left and right to my friends. I hope this dish is re-done at some point!
The service was great, timely, and patient. Sat outside in the 36 degree weather! It was great! Ice cold drinks, comfortable patio with wood and flowers type decor.
Tried the smokehouse BBQ plate today, with the spinach dip and stuffed mushroom caps to start.
The spinach dip and mushroom caps were delicious! 10/10 would come back for these starters. To be frank about the BBQ plate though, I was underwhelmed by the cornbread (I love cornbread. It wasn't sad or disappointing, no. It made the thumbs up, but not the head nod.) and brisket (was unfortunately a little dry), but the dipping sauce, coleslaw, and pork portions were great! Baked potato, what can I say, it's a baked potato🥔. It was good.
Overall satisfied belly. Good company, good ambience, would...
Read moreHave loved eating here, one of the better restaurants in Wainwright. If ever going there, any of the burger/sandwich options are all delicious. But the steak menu is lacking in options, as well as being the most expensive options, doesnt come with a whole lot of sides - The cheese steak isnt a Phily cheese steak, it is a steak with just cheese ontop on a plate. Which was extremely disappointing to see, considering the descriptions dont give a whole lot to go with, as well as no photos. Its basically the same as the other steak options, since they come with Beans, garlic toast and your choice of a side, seems more of a menu filler.
Gave 3 since app wouldnt let me do 3.5. Only time ive had cheese steak option, cheese wasnt fully melted, still cold to the touch on the inside, and my Med/Rare steak was Very Rare. Still seasoned very well, and because of the in house ceaser dressing and burger options make up for the dissapointing steak options and inconsistancy for each one ive tried in terms of quality. Id give this place a 3.5
You will have a 4.5 experience if you go with any of the sandwich options, and the staff are all friendly as well, very warm and cozy dining area. Access to a bar area which i personally havent experienced yet.
Ps. Always get the Spinach Dip to share, its always great and i...
Read moreUpdate, I gave this place another shot. I was glad I did! Great friendly service great food and absolutely nothing hindered my experience. I think I will for sure make this place regular stop! Changed from 2 to 5 stars exactly the review I would of given the first time I went.
This was my second trip to the Honeypot. I had high hopes after such a good first experience. The wait staff was top notch, coffee's never empty and very attentitive. The food on the other hand was just meh. I ordered steak and lobster for my birthday supper and was greatly disappointed. Lobster and steak were both overcooked. Ordered a medium rare, got medium well, very dry. Lobster was a little chewy but tolerable. Ended up sending the steak back and didn't want a replacement because it would take too long, we were a group of 6.
When the bill came they gave me 20% off my steak when I didn't eat more than one bite. I was appaled, I shouldn't have to pay for it at all! After bringing up my concern they begrudgingly gave me 50% off my meal. I paid 7$ for a steak I didn't touch. I do not think I'll be going back anytime soon. A sad birthday...
