I’ve been a loyal customer at this IGA for 16 years, not because of their customer service (which has always been terrible), but simply because of the convenient location right next to my house. Over the years, the staff have consistently been uneducated, rude, and completely incompetent—especially the supervisors, who never seem to know how to handle even basic situations. Ask a question and they act like you’re annoying them, with zero professionalism or courtesy.
Today was the last straw. I picked up an expired product, and while standing in line (with the store about to close), I politely asked a staff member to grab a fresh one for me, explaining that I didn’t want to lose my spot and risk not being able to check out. Instead of helping, the employee gave me attitude, told me to get it myself, and acted like I was being unreasonable.
I called a supervisor, expecting at least a basic level of support, but she was even worse—rude, slow to understand what was going on, and clearly didn’t care at all. The level of disrespect was off the charts, and after years of tolerating it, I finally lost it and started yelling. I was beyond fed up. The way they spoke to me and treated me like a problem instead of a paying customer was unacceptable.
This isn’t the first time something like this has happened, but it will be the last. I will never step foot in that IGA again, and I strongly encourage everyone else to take their business elsewhere. Management needs a complete overhaul. The entire store—from staff to supervisors—needs serious training in how to treat customers like...
Read moreEarlier today, I had a very unpleasant experience with a cashier who had 2 minutes left of her duty, as she was asking her colleague if she should take THIS ONE (meaning if she should serve me) or leave. I received a phone call while she was scanning the items I bought. When I inserted my card to pay, I accidentally touched the card, and that resulted in an error in the transaction. She was mad at me and told me in a rude way : It would be better if you put your phone away and focus on what you're doing! I couldn't believe my ears! I thought she was talking to a 5 y.o.! I asked her calmly if she was talking to me, thinking to myself that it's a joke! I did not expect such an attitude coming from a lady her age!! She continued with her rudeness, so I told her that I didn't want my stuff anymore. As I was about to leave, she called her manager and explained to her what had happened. Surprisingly, her manager backed her up and told me that the client should be focused with the employees! I was shocked as they were both talking to me in an unprofessional way, knowing that I remained calm but unhappy! I was disrespected in front of all the customers in a so-called FAMILY ENVIRONMENT! No one cared to apologize for disrespecting me! No one cared about the client's satisfaction! Unfortunately, these employees don't represent the VALUES of the institution...
En partant, j'ai dit « Have a nice day! » et elle a immédiatement répondu « Bonne journée! ».
A few years back (May 2019), I vowed never to return to this IGA store because I had found a live bug in my pre-made salad that I had purchased from this location, only after I had started eating it (see picture attached). Recently, out of convenience as it is located near where I work, I've decided to give them a second chance and would occasionally stop by during my lunch hour to pick up a few groceries needed (even though I will NEVER purchase anything pre-made again from there). Today will be the last time I ever visit this store. As I was at the self checkout, I called over the attendant to ask a simple question about an item that I had scanned, as I didn't see it ring up at the advertised price. I almost always speak in French, because after all, we are in Quebec, but today, I happened to ask the question in English... only to be VERY RUDELY RESPONDED by the attendant "En français SVP!". I was taken a little aback, but I figured, maybe this lady didn't understand, so I repeated my question in perfect French, to which she responded. As I left, I said, "Have a nice day!" and she promptly responded "Bonne journée!". That's when I knew that she had understood me perfectly and was just being rude! If she couldn't respond to my initial question in English, by all means, no problem, I completely understand, speak back to me in French or say you aren't fluent. It’s not the end of the world. But DO NOT, EVER SCHOOL SOMEONE because they know more than one language... It was a completely ignorant and rude response toward a paying customer who, by purchasing items at your store, allow you to keep your employment. Last time I ever return out of pure principle, and I'll be sure to spread the word to my colleagues and friends who also live and...
