Not as large as some but still a nice place with good produce at a decent price. Asian produce man is super helpful and very friendly. All the floor staff go out of their way to search for any items that you can't find or go looking in the back for it for you. This is a smaller location so there is no bakery, meat, or deli counter. Cashiers are all great too and the lineups are not bad, but now there may be only one served checkout open. Self-Checkout doesn't usually have a line. We go here about the same amount as the No Frills down the street with it being less crowded. Really this location is four stars but it gets five from me because they hire people with mental disabilities who all do a great job, and the rest of the staff are great with them too.

This is one of the most cleanest Food Basics I have ever been to. It is very local and smaller when compared to the other larger grocery chains, but the employees are very polite, and everything is quite clean. The one issue is finding employees though. There seems to be nobody ever working except the cashiers, and sometimes the dairy section looks like it is out of stock, but you can clearly see the milk in the back cooler. Lastly, they just installed self-checkout options, which is awesome, and makes it very easy for quick trips to just pick up a couple of items.

I am a nearby resident to this store. Often I find fresh veggies and good deal on many of the items available there. Location is convenient with lots of parking spots and Tim Hortons in the same yard. The only low spot is: at times things are cheaper in their parent store Metro and they don’t price match even with their own larger counterpart. Slogan is always more for less but that applies only too often.

Cons:

I wouldn't suggest anyone shop here for fruits and vegetables unless you like mold on your strawberries 🍓 and other fruits. Green beans are always soft and tend develop mold soon after purchasing. Also, raspberries, strawberries, blue berries and blackberries have mold on them almost all the time. The Bread section is almost always frozen when purchasing in the morning. I guess they're really trying to save a penny wherever they can. I had to take pictures of their strawberries and other fruits and complain to the Peel Public Health because this type of quality should not be sold. When I complained to the manager he said "Call head office" as if he wasn't concerned about what he was bringing out to be stalked on the shelves. When I called head office, nothing was resolved. Bananas are never good either. I've caught them bringing out bananas that are bruised or green and by the time you bring them home they are bruised and nasty. I just think the quality should Be better taken into consideration. After all, Food Basics is the only one of it lower end grocery stores chains which does not price match and they should. I complained to the manager again and he told me to contact head office because everything is out of his control and that he doesn't even shop there. That was enough for me to stop shopping there. I'm just trying to warn others!!! I will be calling on the Health inspectors to come in to view their quality because it is really unacceptable.

Pros

Clean store and friendly staff. Where they lack in freshness they make up in Customer Service. ...

I find it very shocking that today when I came into the store I went to the dairy section to find that no one was there to assist me in regards to a item I went to the cash to ask someone to call to get someone to assist me only to find out that the man working that section went to smoke outside this isnt the first time that this individual has gone out to smoke I came back a hour or so later and the same the individual had stepped out to smoke with another colleague. The nice young lady told me she was not at liberty to disclose the individuals name but I stuck around and from my understanding his name is dominic. It is unacceptable that I have to wait for a worker to do his JOB! just because he is a smoker. I will be filing a formal complaint with the store manager and the metro company.

Update: may 2 2021 Today I was there around 330 ish to find that one of the cashiers was very stressed out because no one was answering any calls for customer service when people came to ask for something they could not find. I feel for that cashier as I understand how hard it can be it is absolutely ridiculous that no one was around not even the store manager or supervisor to assist this girl with all the questions and bad remarks headed her way from customers because no one was in the...

I’m not sure if Food Basics is franchised or not. But the Food Basics at this location on Glen Drive in Mississauga has increasingly become so filthy and run down the produce looks disgusting. The employees are mostly miserable. I’m not criticizing the employees because clearly whoever is managing or running this location obviously doesn’t care about the store so why would they care about their employees. It’s close for me to shop at this location, but instead we drive out of our way to the Food Basics off of Truscott Drive in Mississauga. This store is clean orderly and the produce is displayed very organized and looks much fresher than the one here on Glen Erin Drive. Tonight I decided I’ll just pop into this location as I only needed milk, bagels, broccoli and asparagus. I regretted going into the store as soon as I walked in there were no carts available. The floors were filthy. The broccoli was old and moldy, and the asparagus were thin like spaghetti. There were hardly any customers in the store, so there was no reason not to have carts available for those of us who wanted to shop there. All I can say is that is the last time I shop at this location. I regretted it as soon as I walked through the door and saw how, filthy the store looked especially the fresh...
