Hi,
I have to say the story time of OPL is the worst experience that I have ever had in different libraries in both US and Canada.
We have been there twice, but my 2 yrs old son was rejected from the door due to no tickets, he observed all other kids got to step in that fun room in front of him, but the fun not belonged to him, he held only frustration back home.
I can understand they try to limit the attendant’s amount inside, but there should be lots of good ways out there to do so without hurting a little ones feeling, especially in a neighborhood library.
I wish there could be a staff tell us we need a ticket to attend, I wish they put a message on the website, I wish I could find a poster on the library wall mentioned it, unfortunately, there is nothing. That was my first time to be there, but we didn’t find any help or instructions.
The second time I asked the front desk to get the tickets, but she was busy holding a phone, and mentioned she placed those tickets on somewhere in the kids zone, but I couldn’t find any. My son and I observed some parents hold a bunch of tickets stepping into the fun room, but we were rejected again. I wish staff could take care of the tickets and see those as a ticket for fun reading journey for a little ones, I wish the staff could be more responsible to their job which is important for a young reader. Unfortunately, they didn’t.
The supervisor spoke to me with mean words in a polite way. That’s ridiculous, they can’t be friendly to a little, how can I wish they could be polite to me.
The management team could do much better than it is right now, like other libraries have been doing. But it ended that it’s a mean place to go...
Read moreCall ahead if you intend to use the pool. Today it was closed for maintenance but the online schedule said that it was open. They post some paper notices around the facility but if you haven't been there to read them, you won't know that the pool is closed. If only there were some other way to let people know about pool closures...
Last time I used the shower in the men's pool change room it was clogged with hair and the water was backing up.
The family change room is chaotic and in most cases it's being used by people who could actually change their kids in one of the gendered change rooms. It's quite small, so it's close to useless on many days.
I'd recommend the QEP Community Centre pool over this one, especially if you want to use a family change room, as it has more than one.
The library is fine and has some decent programs for kids. It can be pretty loud, though. Last time I was there someone at the table behind me spent 45 minutes taking a phone call and not in a quiet way.
The public skate sessions are fine and the cookies at the snack...
Read moreShowing signs of wear, the fitness room is big enough to be excellent but it isn't excellent at all. The entire complex is huge and it gets packed with people at weekends and evenings, when parking can be a challenge. The pool is always warm and clean, but the tiny steam room is rotting away from below. The acrobatic-gym centre is world class, focusing on younger kids, the racquet ball courts are OKish focusing on us fat-Dads, the library is excellent and full of smartphones attached to young faces, the wall-TVs rarely work and some are relics. A reno would cost a LOT, so things won't improve, but there sure is a lot available there, but it's mostly quantity over quality. The staff are great, but the front desk staff look ignored and bored in the multitudinous chaos. Maybe use a TV screen and a...
